A correctly functioning carburetor guarantees the highest efficiency of the chainsaw, in other words, for you to develop working power with more economical consumption of the fuel mixture. Adjustment of this unit is usually carried out by the manufacturer, but its design provides for the possibility of the function already during operation.

That, in essence, the owner of the chainsaw will have to perform such adjustments is evidenced by:

• Strong vibrations or damage to the protective cap.
• CPG wear.
• Carburetor clogged.
• Inability to start the engine or its spontaneous stopping after starting.
• Increased fuel consumption and exhaust volume with a simultaneous decrease in engine power.

Adjustment of the chainsaw carburetor is carried out in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions using 3 special screws that regulate the highest (“M”) and lowest (“L”) revolutions, and additionally the idle speed of the engine (“T”). To eliminate unnecessary intervention by an inexperienced user in the operation of the carburetor, some Russian manufacturers install only one idle screw.

Why does the chainsaw get hot? The engine or tire may overheat - in all circumstances, it is all due to a small amount of lubricant.

• Motor overheating. Incorrect proportion of the fuel mixture, as it is also called, pure gasoline is poured in. Drain the fuel and make a mixture with the correct proportions of oil and gasoline, as indicated by the manufacturer.

• Incorrect chain sharpening. The teeth are sharpened at the wrong angle or only in one direction. Proper sharpening is required.

1. Assess the quality of the fuel mixture. Not all manufacturers provide adjustable jets for chainsaw models. However, in some you can configure them. This gives “masters” the opportunity to experiment with the composition of the fuel mixture. Perhaps you decided to do such an experiment, but after a while you forgot about it, and now you blame the breather of the chainsaw’s gas tank for the malfunction of the tool. Remember that ideally you need to use the brand of oil recommended by the manufacturer (indicated in the instructions for the device); do not use the old mixture (it needs to be used up within two weeks maximum). In a month it will deteriorate and cause problems with the operation of the device.
2. Check the spark plug (you may be filling it when you start the tool). Inspect this part, it should be clean without traces of oil. If there is plaque on it, it should be light; brown indicates a problem with the ignition coil. Keep spare spark plugs on hand to quickly eliminate this item from your list of saw problems.
3. Not only the breather can become clogged, but also the carburetor jet and the fuel filter (which is why, after dismantling, the handle and the carburetor must be removed in order to properly clean the surface underneath from sawdust). You can clean both nodes yourself.
4. Air filter clogged. This filter can become clogged with dust, which will become the main obstacle when trying to start the chainsaw.

Troubleshooting and DIY repairs

Repairing a Husqvarna chainsaw is complicated by the fact that it requires specific tools that are usually not included in the arsenal of a home craftsman. But all of them can either be bought at an auto parts store or made by yourself.

• Piston stopper. Can be replaced with a synthetic cord from a starter with knots tied every 2–3 cm.

• the top cover is removed;

After this, the front handle is disconnected, followed by the carburetor, oil pump and lastly the engine.

Troubleshooting the ignition system comes down to replacing failed spark plugs with new ones. Only Champion RCJ7Y spark plugs are used. The ignition coil in Husqvarna chainsaws is electronic, maintenance-free, and if it fails, it is completely replaced, like the starter.

There is no need to adjust the ignition system. The only problem that can be solved by adjustment is setting the gap between the flywheel and the coil. The gap is set using plumbing gauges. The standard value is 0.2 mm.

The Husqvarna 142 carburetor has 3 adjusting screws, marked H, L and T. The first is designed to set the injection at maximum speed, the second at low speed, the third determines the fuel injection parameters at idle.

First, the idle injection of the fuel mixture is adjusted by turning screw L ¼ turn counterclockwise. If the saw chain moves, the movement is stopped by clamping the screw T. The adjustment is made with visual and auditory control - the motor should not squeal and white smoke should not come out of it. The correct position of the screw is determined empirically.

After this, the chainsaw accelerator is clamped and the injection at high speeds is adjusted using screw H in exactly the same way.

The leakage of excess air into the carburetor is eliminated by replacing the torn hose - the black tube going to the carburetor, or by fitting it more tightly.

The saw chain tension regulator is on the right side. To access it you will have to remove the side cover. The tension is adjusted by turning the bolt to the required degree.
