How to assemble a gasoline trimmer: procedure and step-by-step video instructions

As a rule, devices designed for mowing grass and the like are quite bulky.

The vast majority of trimmers of any type are delivered disassembled, packed in a cardboard box, so such a device must be assembled before starting work.

In addition, it is often necessary to assemble the trimmer after winter, because some owners disassemble this device so that it takes up less space during storage.

What trimmer oil should I use?

Oil for 2-stroke trimmer engines must meet slightly different standards than oil for 4-stroke engines.
Lawn mower oil must have a high degree of combustion so that carbon deposits do not form on the internal parts of the fuel system (carbon particles may fall off and form scratches on the cylinder walls). Also, 2-stroke oil must be highly soluble in gasoline and be designed to operate at high temperatures. Taking into account such serious standards, modern manufacturers of garden equipment produce special lines of 2-stroke oils designed specifically for trimmers and lawn mowers. Oils from manufacturers such as Hado and Shtil are ideal for this equipment, provide excellent lubrication and have a low flammability level.

Mowing duration

An electric mower can work without a break for no more than 20 minutes, after which it will need the same amount of time to rest. The motor needs to cool down to prevent the plastic parts from melting.

Gasoline trimmers allow longer operation. On average, you can work for up to 40-60 minutes, or until the fuel runs out. In any case, the break should not be less than ten minutes, but it is better if it is twenty. The point here is in the engine itself, which is deprived of the liquid cooling system natural to the internal combustion engine. To avoid overheating and increased wear, it is better to give the device the opportunity to cool down, and at the same time restore its strength or collect the already cut grass.

The design and principle of operation of a starter on a trimmer

The gasoline engine is, in principle, the main part of the brush cutter. Its power is in the range of 0.5-2.5 hp. The movement from it is transmitted to the shaft located inside the hollow rod, and then through a gearbox consisting of gears to a fishing line or knife (working body).

The lawn mower also has the following elements:

  • protective casing;
  • lever;
  • a belt designed for ease of use of the device;
  • a starter used to start a gasoline internal combustion engine.

All parts of the brush cutter are shown in the photo below.

The starter on the trimmer is an integral part that starts the engine into operation. It is shown separately in two photos below.

The starting mechanisms of various models of lawn mowers work on the same principle: when starting the internal combustion engine, the protrusions, marked in the photo above with number 1, engage with pawls 3. When the engine starts to work, they return to their previous position due to the influence of centrifugal force. Wires 2 also play a similar role.

The process of returning the mechanism elements to their original position occurs due to the presence of a spring wound around an axis. It unfolds when the rope is pulled. After releasing the cord, it is retracted and wound due to the coiling of the spring. When starting the internal combustion engine of a lawn mower, the starting mechanism rotates its shaft until it starts working (starts up).

Today, gasoline lawn mowers are equipped with two types of starter mechanisms:

  • manual;
  • electric.

The first option is much more common.

The starter on the trimmer can function without breakdowns for a long time. It is impossible to clearly indicate the failure-free operation period. Everything is determined by the initial quality of the device and compliance with the rules of handling it.

Disassembly of the starter unit

The trigger mechanism is disassembled in order to install new parts instead of broken ones in the following sequence:

  • Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screw that secures the pulley to the starter cover;
  • Remove the spring and antennae;
  • Carefully remove the pulley (you need to unscrew the head or work while wearing glasses and gloves first)
  • Determine why the trigger is triggered;
  • If the spring has collapsed almost completely, then it is replaced;
  • When the spring comes out of the hook, it is installed in its original place, bending the antennas before this (the photos show the installation process)

  • Once the spring plate is installed inside the groove, carefully roll it up.

To change a spring, you must work carefully and carefully; it may accidentally burst under the force of putting it in place. Even if you carefully remove the roller, the spring strip flies away from the reel very quickly and can injure your hand with its sharp edges.

Reasons why the lawn mower does not develop speed

There are five main reasons why the Stihl trimmer does not develop speed:

Use of low quality fuel

The fuel trimmer does not pick up speed if the fuel is of poor quality. It may stall or not start at all. To check the quality of the fuel, you need to inspect the spark plugs. They are the main indicators for problems with the combustion chamber.

If there is sediment or deposits formed on the spark plugs, the old fuel is drained and new, high-quality fuel is added.

It must be remembered that the trimmer or lawn mower must be refueled with good quality gasoline and the grades of fuel specified by the manufacturer in the technical data sheet of the device.

For your information! The spark plugs should be thoroughly cleaned of deposits, and only then placed again in the fuel combustion chamber.

Dirty air or fuel filter

If the brush cutter does not gain momentum, the reasons may lie in the contamination of the filter element: air or fuel.

When the air filter is clogged, there is a lack of oxygen in the combustion chamber, so fuel is not fully produced, which makes it difficult to develop the required speed and power.

To check whether the problem is really in the air filter, you need to remove it and turn it on. If the lawn mower still does not gain momentum, this is not the reason. This means you should check the fuel filter element. Everything is similar here, only gasoline acts as oxygen. If this filter is damaged, there will be a lack of fuel, which slows down the development of speed.

In both cases, the solution is simple: you just need to replace the filter. If there is a spare one in stock, install it; if not, purchase it at any specialized store; it is inexpensive.

Spark plug problems

When the gas trimmer is used frequently, you need to monitor the condition of the spark plugs. This part is subject to wear, so they need to be inspected regularly to see if there is carbon deposits on them.

There are two ways to solve the problem: clean the old candle from burning or buy a new one.

In the first case, you need to unscrew it, sand it with sandpaper, and dry it. The distance between the electrodes should be 1 mm. The trimmer is assembled and started.

If there is no spark between the electrodes, it is worth inspecting the quality of the connections of all circuit elements. If in this case everything is fine, then you 100% need to change the spark plugs.

Replacing them is easy and inexpensive. The tools you will need are a key and a needle file.

Important! If carbon deposits often appear on combustion plugs, it is worth looking a little deeper for the cause. Candles should be thoroughly cleaned of deposits.

Candles should be thoroughly cleaned of deposits.

Engine problems

Problems with the engine are more serious. There are several possible problems:

  • carburetor damaged;
  • problems with the drive.

In the case of a carburetor problem, you should first pay attention to the condition of the cable. It may be weakened, which led to the problem

A simple cable adjustment is required here.

If this does not help, then you need to check the usage settings. The specified operating standards can be found in the technical data sheet of the device. Sometimes it is enough to disassemble the device: wash, clean and reassemble.

Note! The solution to the problem with the carburetor may be to purchase a new element or contact the service for professional services. The trimmer drive is subjected to a full check only if manipulations with the carburetor do not give the desired result.

The trimmer drive is subjected to a full check only if manipulations with the carburetor do not produce the desired result.

Failure in the fuel circulation system

Lack of fuel circulation in the system may also be the reason why the device does not gain speed. There are several options why this happens:

  • cracks in the hose, which causes air leaks;
  • fuel pump clogged;
  • clogged catalyst or muffler.

You can troubleshoot problems yourself. To do this you need:

  • remove blockages from the fuel pump;
  • update hoses and pipes for fuel circulation;
  • clean the muffler and the mesh on it;
  • install a new catalyst.

Don't worry if such problems arise. This does not mean that the unit is of poor quality. If the Patriot trimmer does not gain momentum, you can fix it yourself without contacting service.

Adding fuel through the spark plug holes

If the trimmer engine does not have manual pumping and the device does not start, add some fuel to the engine itself through the spark plug passages. Do the following.

  1. Check if the fuel level in the tank is sufficient to drain a small amount of it. Only 20 ml is required.
  2. Remove the cap from the spark plug and unscrew it using a spark plug wrench.
  3. If the spark plug on a used trimmer is dirty, wash and heat it. There should be no deposits on the spark plug electrodes. Do not damage the ceramic insulator of the center conductor. In a new trimmer, check the spark plugs for manufacturing defects.
  4. Return the spark plug and check the spark ignition (discharge between the electrodes) when the starter operates.
  5. Remove the spark plug again. Using a 20 or 50 cc syringe, pour 20 ml of gasoline into the spark plug hole.
  6. Insert and fix the spark plug, setting its technological gap to no less than and no more than a millimeter.
  7. Pump up the fuel using the pump button (or lever) - if your trimmer model has one. Press the button every 4 seconds.

Now try to start the engine. Close the air damper immediately after starting.

Manual gas mowers: weight and type of handle

Sometimes the buyer makes the mistake that there is no need to take into account the weight and type of handle when choosing a unit. This is a misconception. After all, the uninterrupted operating time of the operator will depend on the weight. The heavier the unit, the less time you will work.

Typically, powerful trimmers can weigh between six and ten kilograms. If you decide to choose just such a unit, then you need to carefully study its configuration. These models always have shoulder straps, which make work much easier.

When reviewing the models, pay attention to the type of handle. After all, when working with a trimmer, you must hold it firmly and confidently

Most manual lawn mowers have a T-shaped handle, which is convenient and practical.

Checking the ignition system

If the trimmer has already been used, then check the serviceability of the (currently) removed spark plug by swapping it with any other one. If, when inspecting a spark plug, for example, the ceramic dielectric crumbled or the electrodes were bent, buy exactly the same one, using the product code stamped on the part itself and checking it with the marker in the trimmer’s instruction manual. A spark plug without an insulator and/or with bent electrodes will not produce normal sparks when triggered.

If the spark plugs are in order, but spark ignition of the fuel is not observed, check the ignition coil using an ohmmeter (multimeter). Lack of readings (infinite resistance) is a sign of a winding break. If it is sintered due to overheating due to an interturn short circuit, there will not be enough voltage for spark breakdown.

Since a very thin wire is used for it, thanks to which it converts 12.6 volts from the battery into 30,000, it is very difficult to fix it (rewind) even in a garage. The coil will need to be replaced.

Lawn mower lubrication - how to choose gearbox oil?

Often operating under high loads, the trimmer gearbox is subject to increased wear. To reduce it and extend the life of the unit, you need to use the right oil.

Trimmer lubricant must meet a number of factors:

  • viscosity – the gear oil used must be a highly viscous material that begins to change its consistency when exposed to high temperatures;
  • high adhesion - gear oil must have adhesion to the mechanism parts. In this case, the lubricant should not be squeezed out of the gaps of the assembly;
  • brand - the quality of modern lubricants directly depends on their manufacturers. Lubricants from Stihl, Makita, Husqvarna and Huter have proven themselves best in practice.

The amount of lubricant applied to the gearbox also plays an important role. In most cases, service centers do not give a direct answer to questions about how much and how often the oil in the gearbox needs to be changed. In this regard, each trimmer owner must independently determine the volume and frequency of lubricant replacement, based on their own experience in operating garden tools.

How to start a lawn mower - a step-by-step algorithm for beginners

Proper startup of the trimmer is one of the most important factors affecting the stability and durability of the tool's working mechanisms. By starting the scythe each time in a certain sequence, its owner will prevent increased wear of the piston group, starter and ignition system of his tool.

Starting electric trimmers is easier than gasoline models. To turn on the engine, there is a button on the body of each electric scythe, pressing which activates the motor, which, when the corresponding lever is pressed, activates the cutting parts of the tool. At the end of the work, the operator just needs to press the same button. After this, the motor will immediately stop working.

The process of starting gasoline trimmers is more complicated.

The correct startup order is as follows:

  1. First, the tool must be placed on a flat surface. In this case, the cutting parts of the trimmer should not touch the surface of the ground or any foreign objects;
  2. After this, you need to pump fuel into the cylinder. To do this you will need to use the appropriate pump;
  3. Then you need to move the throttle lever to its highest position;
  4. Next you will need to pull the starter lever towards you. As a result, the trimmer motor should start and stall on its own;
  5. After this, you need to fix the gas lever, move the throttle lever to the middle position, and pull the starter cord again;
  6. As a result, the engine will start and start operating at maximum speed. In this mode, the motor should run for about 10 seconds;
  7. Finally, with the internal combustion engine running, you need to move the damper position lever to the lowest position, press the gas lever, and start working with the trimmer.

Disassembling a gasoline scythe, lubricating its parts and replacing faulty elements

To disassemble a gasoline cutter for repair work, you will usually need the following devices:

  • A set of screwdrivers (with different tips) and wrenches;
  • With a puller for removing bearings;
  • Special spanner for spark plugs;
  • Hammer.

In each specific case, you will need to disassemble individual units.

It should be borne in mind that the starter (launcher) in a number of models is inseparable; in this case, if problems arise with it, only replacing the element is possible. If the assembly is disassembled, it can be repaired by removing and replacing the rope and spring, or installing the latter (when it is disconnected).

Disassembly and repair of electrical parts

Disassembling the electrical tape in order to repair its electrical part is carried out in the following sequence.

  • Place the trimmer on a flat surface (for example, a table) that does not contain unnecessary objects.
  • Unscrew the cover screws located on one side.
  • Remove the unscrewed half of the housing, gaining access to the start button, electric motor, brush assembly, bearings, electrical connections (these elements are shown in the photo below).

Electric trimmer disassembled

The brush and bearing blocks are shown in the photo below.

The scythe will work even without a thermal relay; you just need to constantly independently check the temperature of the electric motor, periodically letting it cool down. You can also install a new similar sensor.

The motor start button can be checked by closing the jumper of its contacts. If the trimmer works, then the problem is clear. But this option is not safe. Everything should be done carefully so as not to receive an electric shock. To change the button, you need to use a screwdriver to remove it from the seat and connect the wires from the old to the new. After replacement, you need to assemble the electrical bracket and then check its functionality.

Replacement of brushes is necessary if they are damaged. In this case, it is enough to remove the old ones from the grooves and install new ones in their place.

Bearing replacement. This is a rather complicated operation, since it may stick and not be removed from the motor shaft. Pull or fluff carefully to avoid damaging the rotor or seats.

Bearing for trimmer ET1003A

When the trimmer motor has failed and needs to be replaced with a new one, carefully remove the fan and bearings and then reinstall them. In terms of costs, replacement is almost comparable to purchasing a new mechanism. If you have no experience working with electric motors, it is better to entrust this to specialists.

How to change fishing line on a Stihl brushcutter

About a year ago, the author of these lines bought a STIHL brushcutter (Stihl, as they say in common parlance) FS 38.

The fishing line that was in the grass trimmer when purchased was enough for about a year; the last remnants were torn out when a dry tree branch was not noticed in the grass. That's not the point.

A replacement fishing line was also purchased, along with a brush cutter (trimmer). But when the question arose of how to replace it, it caused difficulties. Internet searches for #171;how to replace stihl line #187; did not lead to immediate results. More precisely, the author of these lines came across a question about replacing fishing line, asked by a user to a specialist and the answer: #171;it’s impossible to explain that way, contact your dealer, he will show#187;.

Well, I went to the dealer, the dealer showed it, and he (the author of this entry), when he arrived home, pulled out the fishing line and inserted it in front of the camera again. So that you can remember it yourself, if you need to, and show it to others. For those who are concerned about the beauty of their home or garden.

The ratio of gasoline and oil for lawn mowers

Petrol mowers are a fairly common technique for controlling weeds in summer cottages, gardens, roads and housing and communal services. These devices have two more names - trimmer and brushcutter. These units differ in their engines. The more expensive ones have four-stroke engines, all the rest have two-stroke engines. Of course, the latter are the most popular among the population, since they are simpler in design, lighter in weight, and significantly cheaper than their four-stroke competitors. However, two-stroke models are inconvenient in that the fuel mixture for them must be prepared manually, maintaining a strict dosage between gasoline and oil. In four-stroke analogues, mixing of these components occurs automatically; you just need to fill the gas tank and oil tank with the appropriate substances. Let's consider the question of the correct refueling of two-stroke lawn mowers, since this determines how effective and long the operation of such a unit will be.

How to Replace the Gearbox on a Champion Electric Trimmer

From time to time, in the midst of busy mowing work, your trimmer begins to make an unpleasant, grinding sound. Standard proportions

For all other cases, when you have a model of a lawn mower in your hands and there is no way to find out its technical features, there are standard proportions of the most likely components of the fuel mixture for a two-stroke engine. Basically, these units use AI-92 gasoline and special synthetic oil, which contains a solvent for better mixing with fuel. This oil evaporates slowly and has the ability to burn completely in the cylinder without leaving soot.

The standard ratio of synthetic oil to gasoline is 1: 50. This means that 5 liters of gasoline require 100 ml of oil, and according to this, oil consumption per 1 liter of gasoline is 20 ml. Knowing the amount of oil required to dilute 1 liter of fuel, you can easily calculate any standards when preparing fuel for a trimmer. When using mineral oils, the standard ratio is most often 1:40. Therefore, 1 liter of fuel will require 25 ml of such oil, and 125 ml for a 5-liter canister.

When operating a lawn mower, it will not be difficult for a person who has little experience in operating such equipment to determine and adjust the actual amount of oil required for a particular model.

You just need to pay attention to the exhaust gases (their color, toxic odor), stability of cycles, engine heating and developed power. More details about what consequences can be expected from incorrect mixing proportions of gasoline and oil are covered in another section of the article.

There are variants of brush cutters that run on AI-95 gasoline. This should also be taken into account.

Tips for training with a fitball

Before moving on to the list of exercises with a fitball, let's remember how to properly exercise with a rubber ball so that the workout is effective and high-quality. We offer you 10 useful tips for training with a fitball at home or in the gym.

Features of performing exercises with a fitball:

  • When performing exercises with a fitball, you should be focused on your muscles and feel their tension. Try to train not for speed, but for quality.
  • Use in your workout not only exercises for your problem area, but also exercises for the whole body. To successfully lose weight, you need to work in a balanced manner on all muscle groups, and not just on the stomach or just, for example, on the hips.
  • Remember that the more you inflate the fitball, the more difficult it is to perform the exercises. If you are just learning to train with the ball, do not inflate it until it is completely elastic at first.
  • If you don't know how to build a workout, then use the circular principle. Take 5-6 exercises and alternate them with each other in several rounds. The second part of the article offers specific exercise programs that can be taken as a basis.
  • All 50 exercises with a fitball that we offer are divided into 4 groups: for the upper body (shoulders, arms, chest), for the core (back, abdomen), for the lower body (hips and buttocks), for the whole body (working all major muscle groups).
  • Exercises with a fitball are especially effective in working on the muscular corset, so even exercises with a ball for the hips and buttocks help strengthen the abdominal and back muscles as well.
  • For most of the proposed exercises, you will not need any other additional equipment other than a fitball.
  • If you find it difficult to repeat an exercise with a fitball (for example, due to insufficient balance), then either modify it into a more simplified version, or do not perform this exercise at all for now.
  • Exercises with a fitball are an excellent way to prevent back and lower back pain.
  • Read more about the benefits of a fitball, as well as how to choose the right one, in the article: Fitball for weight loss: effectiveness, features, how to choose.

To begin with, let’s remember once again what the benefits of training with a fitball are:

  • strengthening the abdominal muscles, arms, legs and buttocks
  • burning calories and accelerating fat burning
  • strengthening the deep abdominal muscles and muscular corset
  • improving posture and preventing back pain
  • low-impact load without harm to joints
  • fitball is a simple and affordable equipment for everyone

Pumping the body in the upper part

Let's start the training with the upper body: chest, arms and shoulder torso. The basic elements are shown in the table:

Additional equipment will provide an enhanced effect from working out the upper body.

Just ten minutes is enough to use a gymnastic ball and dumbbells to get rid of the “jelly” of the arms in the biceps area and maintain the elasticity of the chest.

Here you can use the following elements:

  • While standing, we rest one palm on the apparatus, and place the second hand with a dumbbell along the body. Bend your arm at the elbow, pulling the dumbbell to your chest. We return to the starting position. Repeat several times and move on to the other hand.
  • We sit on the ball, take dumbbells in straight hands located along the body. Pull the dumbbells to your chest while bending your elbows. Your forearms should form a straight line.
  • From the same position, we raise our arms straight to the sides. Both hands should go into a straight line with the shoulders.
  • From the same position, bend your elbows, holding the dumbbells at ear level. Straighten your arms above your head so that they are behind your ears. We return to the starting position.
  • We leave our hands at the top, as in exercise 4, and from this position we place our hands behind our heads, bending our elbows. The forearm does not work.
  • We sit on the fitball and lean forward, placing our chest on our knees. We bend our elbows and place our palms with dumbbells at chest level. We move our arms with dumbbells back, straightening our elbows. The forearm doesn't work, only the hand.
  • From the same starting position, straighten your arms down, straining your back muscles.
  • Straighten your back and spread your arms with dumbbells to the sides. The palms are facing forward. We turn our hands so that our palms face back.
  • From the same position, we begin to slowly draw circles in the air, first in one direction, then in the other. The elbows should be slightly bent.
  • We lie on the ball with our backs, feet on the floor, knees bent. Raise your arms out to the sides to an angle of 45 degrees relative to the floor. We begin to draw circles in the air, first in one direction, then in the other. In this case, the elbows should be slightly bent, the buttocks should be squeezed, and the stomach should be pulled in.
  • From the same position, bend your elbows and place your palms with dumbbells so that they look outward. We turn our palms inward, while simultaneously straightening our arms up.

Important! Start with light weights. In the beginning, it will be enough to take dumbbells weighing one kilogram. And then increase the weight.

Why does my lawn mower have trouble starting?

There can be many reasons why the trimmer does not start.

The most common reasons for difficult starting are:

  • problems with fuel quality;
  • faulty spark plugs;
  • contamination of air and fuel filters;
  • problems with equalizing pressure in the gas tank;
  • exhaust channel malfunction.

Most often, these faults are not critical and you can fix them yourself. Let's take a closer look at how to do this.

Fuel

Do not skimp on fuel for your equipment; use only high-quality gasoline and oil. Strictly adhere to the recommended proportions for the fuel mixture. Also, you should not leave fuel in the tank for a long time - it will become waterlogged over time and lose its properties.

Candles and candle channel

If you suspect a faulty spark plug, you should immediately unscrew the old spark plug and replace it with a new one. If it is not possible to immediately install a new spark plug, thoroughly clean and dry the old one. Drain excess fuel through the spark plug channel and dry it thoroughly. After this, screw the spark plug into place, set the gap to 1 mm and try to wind the braid again.

If the proposed manipulations do not give the desired result, check the contact of the spark plug. Also, the reason for the lack of a spark may be a faulty ignition unit, which is unlikely to be repaired on your own.

Air and fuel filter

Contamination of these parts of the lawn mower may result in either their complete replacement or thorough cleaning. When replacing the fuel filter, do not leave the suction pipe unprotected - this may cause damage to the engine piston system.

Problems with equalizing pressure in the gas tank

This malfunction is associated with contamination of the breather. When this part becomes clogged, a vacuum is formed in the gas tank, which prevents the flow of fuel. You can clean the breather using a regular needle.

If, after checking these trimmer systems, it does not start, most likely the reason is a problem with the carburetor (clogged jets, broken seals) or the engine (wear of the piston rings, chips on the cylinder). This type of repair can also be done independently, but it is better to trust the specialists of the service center.

Diagnostic features

Trimmers can be classified as complex devices in technical terms. Based on this, before using them, it is strongly recommended to carefully study the appropriate annotation. But in practice, many people ignore it, and often later find themselves in situations where the gasoline trimmer does not start or picks up speed poorly during operation. It should be noted that similar problems can be encountered when acquiring new standards of technology.

The key to effective and prompt repair will, of course, be competent diagnostics of the device. In the process of identifying defects, you will have to examine and test, first, the main elements. The list of these includes spark plugs, a tank, filter units and fuel system valves. As practice shows, very often malfunctions of these particular parts become a prerequisite for the fact that the lawn mower does not start. The quality and correctness of the production of the fuel mixture deserves special attention, especially when it comes to two-stroke engines. Regarding this parameter, you should follow the manufacturer's advice correctly in order to avoid serious breakdowns and expensive repairs. In the case, for example, with a piston group of an internal combustion engine, costs can reach up to 70 percent of the price of the latest technology.

Often, owners of trimmers have to deal with situations where the designated mixture is of high quality, the carburetor is working properly and adjusted, but the device still shows no signs of life when trying to start the engine. In such cases, you should check the condition of the spark plug. The following steps will resolve the problem:

  • unscrew the spark plug;
  • wipe and dry the part (calcination is unnecessary);
  • remove fuel and dry the spark plug channel for 30–40 minutes; such actions will allow you to avoid flooding the spark plug during the next start-up attempt;
  • completely remove traces of soot using a needle file or sandpaper;
  • set the appropriate gap;
  • put the candle in place.

If the spark plug turns out to be working and the seat is one hundred percent dry, but the scythe engine does not start, then the threads should be moistened with gasoline. It is worth keeping in mind that, regardless of the quality of the spark produced, initially in a completely dry chamber there will simply be nothing to ignite

When faced with the fact that there is no spark, you should pay attention to checking the contact between the high-voltage wiring and the spark plugs. If this connection turns out to be of high quality, then it will be necessary to inspect the functionality of the ignition system control unit

In such cases, it is unlikely to be possible without the services of a qualified specialist.

The next step in diagnosing a gasoline spit is checking the condition of the filters. Often the lawn mower starts poorly or does not start at all when it is cold due to the fact that the air filter is clogged. This malfunction can be identified by excluding it from the system. If after this the scythe starts up, you will have to clean or replace this element. Experienced users always recommend blowing out the air filter from time to time to maximize its service life.

The described tool may also fail to start due to problems with the gasoline supply caused by a dirty fuel filter. To quickly and effectively eliminate a similar breakdown, it will be useful to simply replace the filter element with a new one. It is important to remember that the absorption pipe must be equipped with a filter, which is provided for by all instructions. Failure to comply with these rules and advice may result in expensive piston repairs.

In the process of diagnosing and searching for the source of problems with starting the mower, attention should be paid to the breather, which is responsible for stabilizing the pressure equalization in the fuel tank. In addition, you need to check the cleanliness of the exhaust channel and muffler mesh

Typically, similar problems are encountered in most cases when troubleshooting old models.

The trimmer won't start - how to find and fix the problem?

There is a whole list of breakdowns, as a result of which the household trimmer stops starting. In electric and gasoline scythes, the reasons may differ. This is due to differences in the design of electric and brush cutters.

Most often, electric scythes do not work due to problems with the cable. It is possible that as a result of accidental contact of the cutting elements with the wiring, the latter remained broken. In this case, you will need to replace the cable, having first cleaned and insulated the contacts.

Another reason for the breakdown of the electric scythe is the jamming of the protective relay, which is activated whenever there is a short circuit in the network. In this case, the relay must be replaced, otherwise there is a risk of fire in the internal wiring of electric trimmers.

There are many more reasons why a gas trimmer will not start.

Their list includes:

  • loss of properties by the fuel mixture - if, when storing a lawn mower, there is fuel left in its tank, then the garden tool most likely will not start. In this case, you will need to drain the fuel, blow out the cylinder, add fresh mixture and start the trimmer. The brush cutter also stops starting due to poor quality of fresh fuel, so to refuel the scythe you need to use only gasoline from gas stations of trusted brands;
  • incorrect proportion when preparing the fuel mixture - in this case, the mower does not start well due to its spark plug being flooded with engine oil. The operator will need to remove, clean and dry the spark plug, then install it back and try to start the trimmer. If this does not help, then the spark plug will need to be replaced with a new part;
  • accumulation of debris or a malfunction of the air filter - in both cases, the element will not be able to pass the air that is necessary for mixing with the fuel mixture. A dirty filter will need to be cleaned, and a faulty one will need to be replaced;
  • breakage or deformation of the flexible shaft placed inside the rod - to eliminate the breakage, you will need to remove the gearbox, remove the shaft and install a new one in its place;
  • muffler malfunction - the trimmer may not start due to clogging or deformation of the muffler. In both cases, harmful emissions will accumulate in the cylinder, which will lead to serious engine damage. To avoid this, the operator will need to replace the muffler as soon as the problem is discovered.

How to use a trimmer correctly?

First, take care of safety precautions. To do this, get safety glasses, gloves, and, if necessary, headphones. Be sure to protect your feet - wear strong shoes or boots, long pants

This is especially important when mowing with a metal disc - stones, debris and other foreign objects that can cause harm will fly out from under it.

Before starting to work with the trimmer, make sure that all components and moving parts are securely fastened. Select the right type of mowing attachment in accordance with the nature of the work to be done. This could be a fishing line, a disk or a saw. Check the oil level in the crankcase (on models with a 4-stroke engine) and gearbox lubrication. Fill with the appropriate fuel, start the machine and let it idle for about 3 minutes. It is also advisable to check the mowing area for the presence of foreign objects - stones, glass, stumps, etc.

When mowing, try not to bring the trimmer head close to hard objects (curbs, building walls, trees). Also take into account the nuance that the nozzle rotates counterclockwise, the mowed grass will lie to your left. Do not make sharp and rapid strokes along the entire length of the tool - this overloads the equipment and can lead to breakdown. Make smooth progressive movements from side to side, moving forward 30-40 centimeters with each step. Refrain from mowing in rainy weather - most manufacturers of gasoline units warn about this in the instructions. It is strictly prohibited to mow with electric trimmers in conditions of high moisture.

Caring for a gasoline trimmer should include routine cleaning and lubrication of cutting and rotating parts, replacing or cleaning air filters, and cleaning the radiator. Before winter storage, drain the fuel and let the unit run for a few minutes (to exhaust all the gasoline in the fuel system). It is also recommended to pour a little 2-stroke oil into the cylinder and manually (using the starter cable) crank the crankshaft. It is also important to lubricate the brush cutter with a special anti-corrosion coating. Also take care to lubricate the trimmer shaft externally and internally if it is disassembled.

Operating rules

Each technique has its own characteristics of care and principles of using the device. The rules are rather recommendations that will help extend the operation of the device for several decades.

Important! If all rules are followed, the user will receive the greatest benefit from working with the device.

Basic recommendations:

  1. Study and read the instructions for using and caring for the lawn mower. In this case, it is better to remember the main requirements for correct operation, storage conditions, and you also need to study safety precautions.
  2. End each use of the device by thoroughly cleaning the body, channels for collecting grass, and knives. In this case, it is recommended to use special means.
  3. Never clean the mechanisms when the engine is hot.
  4. Carefully monitor the condition of the engine. If overheating, take a break for 15-20 minutes.
  5. If the device will not be used in the next 2 weeks, it is better to drain the gas station. After completing the work, let the device run independently at idle speed. After which the mechanism will stall.

In Russia, in most regions, a lawn mower is a seasonal device. For this reason, you need to properly prepare the device for the winter season.

Features of preparing the device for the winter season:

  • Conduct a visual inspection of the mower.
  • Remove the main parts.
  • Clean the mechanisms.
  • Dry all parts of the device.
  • Fix, repair, replace damage.
  • Drain the fuel mixture.
  • Clean the air filters.
  • Pour the oil mixture into the gearbox.
  • Clean and lubricate every moving part of the engine.
  • Wrap the motor in an oiled cloth.

Safety comes first

To ensure that the user has an extremely positive experience using the device, several important safety rules must be followed:

  • Before carrying out work, it is recommended to clarify and check the possibility of any foreign object appearing on the site: stone, branch.
  • Warn strangers, especially children, in advance so that they do not come closer than 5 meters to the operating device.
  • To avoid vision problems, work exclusively with glasses with special frames.
  • Visually inspect the unit to look for damage to the housing or loose parts. If possible, correct the problem immediately.
  • Follow the rules for cutting grass. Do not mow grass higher than 20 centimeters. Do not remove more than 1/3 of the grass in one pass.
  • If you are working on a slope, it is recommended to move along the hill. Do not use the up/down technique.
  • Stop the engine when the bevel height changes.
  • If any foreign object gets into the mower and interferes with the operation of the device, you must immediately stop the device and clean the blades.

Note! First of all, non-compliance with the rules can lead to the creation of health problems and technicians. Thus, we can say with confidence that a gasoline lawn mower deserves the respect of buyers, both in terms of power and the quality of the work performed

Advantages of a homemade snow blower

For many people, it is important to understand the benefits they will get from making a functional snow blower out of a trimmer for their yard work. Still, there is an alternative solution - this is the purchase of a ready-made snow blower from manufacturers.

There are several advantages here:

  • Versatility . The modification is not aimed at a complete redesign, but at providing the trimmer with additional functionality. In winter, it will work as a snow blower, and when grass appears, it will switch to trimmer mode.
  • Affordable price . Rework costs will be minimal. Large expenses are not envisaged. You can make some of the components yourself. Yes, you will have to buy something in addition. But the price is still several times less than buying a new snow blower.
  • Efficiency . If you do everything correctly and use a lawn mower suitable for such purposes, the snow blower will pleasantly surprise you with its operational capabilities. But there is an important nuance.

Not all trimmers (mowers) are suitable for conversion into a snow blower.

Before proceeding with disassembly and assembly, make sure that the original unit meets certain requirements.

Consequences of violation of the ratio

The service life of the brush cutter engine depends on how accurately you follow the manufacturer’s recommended proportions of the oil-gasoline mixture. The fact is that the fuel mixture enters the cylinders in the form of gasoline-oil mist. And the task of the oil composition is to lubricate the moving and rubbing parts and surfaces of various parts located in the cylinder. If it suddenly turns out that there is not enough oil, and somewhere there is not enough oil at all, the parts coming into dry contact will begin to damage each other. As a result, scuffs, scratches and chips are formed, which will certainly lead to complete or partial unusability of the engine (for example, it may jam).

In the opposite case, when too much oil enters the engine, it does not have time to burn completely, settling on the cylinder walls and turning over time into solid particles - coke, slag, and the like. As you might guess, this also leads to engine failure. The most important thing is that you should not allow even a single violation of the proportion towards a lack of oil. It’s better to add a little oil 10 times than not add enough oil just once. It often happens that this time is enough to break the engine.

Starting the lawnmower for the first time or after a long period of inactivity

A brushcutter differs from a trimmer in that the grass cutter is not a fishing line, but a mechanical gearbox or a gear-based winch equipped with a knife. The blade drive is much more powerful than the line mechanism - a powerful brush cutter is also used when cutting bushes. Both Chinese and European lawn mowers are nothing special when the declared power is real.

To lubricate the gears of the gearbox, litol or grease is used. After checking the gearbox, prepare the motor itself for work according to the instructions above. If the start is unsuccessful, the problem is already in the engine.

What to do if the chainsaw does not start?

There are many factors why a chainsaw will not start if you follow the starting technology. The most common reasons and solutions:

  • No spark plug. Replacement or drying is required when water enters;
  • There is a problem with the gas supply to the filter. Blowing the fuel hose or filter, replacing;
  • Clogged fuel or air filter. Needs quality cleaning.

If these simple tips don't help, you need a full diagnosis of the problem. It is recommended to return the chainsaw to a service center where they can check the cylinder and crankcase compression, as well as the operation of the carburetor.

Proper starting of the chainsaw ensures stable and reliable operation of this tool. When starting up, before sawing, it is necessary to properly prepare and fill the fuel mixture and adjust the main structural elements

It is important to take into account weather conditions, as well as the features of a particular model

How to start the trimmer. This is a question that confuses owners when their device fails. And after successfully repairing the trimmer, the owner tries to avoid a repetition of the same situation.

Prepare the refueling - fuel mixture

When starting the device after the winter season, or being in a cold room, you need to check the tank for any remaining fuel. If you find any residue, be sure to drain the mixture.

Features of the refueling procedure:

  • The dressing can be either ready-made or a mixture for self-cooking.
  • When refueling four-stroke engines, there is no need to prepare the fuel mixture.
  • The devices interact better with oils with the SAE-30 index.
  • It is not recommended to replace synthetic oil with mineral oil and vice versa.
  • Chinese, Japanese, American gasoline lawn mowers work better on A-92 fuel. European models handle high octane numbers well.
  • Be sure to monitor the mixture level; the best option is 2-3 centimeters lower than the edge of the fuel tanks.

Checking the integrity of the spark arrestor

A trimmer that does not start is a consequence not only of problems with the combustible starter and the engine itself, but also of a clogged exhaust system. The spark-extinguishing mesh must freely allow exhaust gases to pass through. It is located in the muffler. Its purpose is to prevent hot sparks from escaping outside. Otherwise, if they come into contact with flammable materials, such as gasoline, these sparks can ignite them. If there is carbon deposits on it, the muffler must be disassembled, and the mesh itself must be cleaned with a metal brush.
