How to change the drive sprocket on a Husqvarna 55 chainsaw?

The Husqvarna 55 chainsaw may fail under constant loads.
Often it is necessary to change the drive sprocket, which transmits rotational energy from the drive to the chain. To preserve the clutch drum, you can use only one chain or several chains alternately. A single headset is used until completely worn out. Periodically it needs to be corrected, which stops the work. When multiple chains are used, they wear evenly.

When replacing the drive sprocket, you need to check the condition of the bearing and chain.

Sequence of actions to replace a spare part:

  1. Unscrew the chain brake cover. The brake is pulled towards itself, the brake band should come into contact with the clutch cup. Loosen the pair of nuts that hold the cover in place. Once the chain tension is released, the cover can be removed;
  2. Remove the tire and chain, remove debris;
  3. Secure the piston in the cylinder. You can use a special stopper and clamp or a regular rope. When you rotate the clutch, you want the piston to enter the outlet hole. Lower the rope into the spark plug hole to secure the piston. First you need to tie a couple of knots on the rope;
  4. Unscrew the clutch nuts. They spin clockwise. You cannot use a chisel with a hammer, so as not to damage the nut;
  5. Proceed to remove the clutch and drive sprocket drum;
  6. Replace the part;
  7. Collect all the elements.

To prevent most malfunctions, including failure of the drive sprocket, you need to monitor the technical condition of the saw, constantly inspect the tool, and lubricate key parts.
When working with a saw, you should avoid nails, concrete, stones and other objects that can negatively affect the quality of the headset and other elements. To complete all the work efficiently and without problems, you need to use the instructions from the manufacturer, which are provided when purchasing a chainsaw.

Operational advantages

The performance and production characteristics of the model, perfect in many respects, fully comply with the level of current standards and the requirements of regulatory documents.

This is evidenced by reviews from owners and operators, for whom the Husqvarna 55 chainsaw has become a reliable assistant in everyday work and running a private household.

Purpose

Husqvarna 55 is a universal chainsaw and can be used both for work on a garden plot or construction site, and for solving more serious problems. For example, the saw can easily cope with the daily preparation of firewood. The length of the tire, power and weight of the chainsaw allow it to be used both for felling and for cutting or trimming branches of felled trees, which is quite convenient.

Due to the simplicity of the design and the possibility of self-repair, this saw can be used in areas where it is difficult to get to the nearest service center. The Husqvarna 55 has carburetor adjustment, which allows you to configure the chainsaw to work both in winter and summer.

If you need a powerful saw for a wide range of tasks, then the Husqvarna is quite suitable for this.

Saw set

Taking into account the specifics of the upcoming work, the chainsaw can be operated with guide bars from 35 to 50 cm in length. The use of chains with carbide cutting links allows, by reducing forced downtime, to increase the productivity of sawing work by 15 - 20%.

To lubricate and fully cool the headset, special mineral or vegetable oil is fed into the cut. Automatic control of the variable displacement pump allows reducing actual oil consumption by an average of 50%. It is taken from an internal oil tank with a volume of 300 ml.

The safety system of the saw includes a device for blocking the chain in the event of an unusual and traumatic situation. The emergency brake is activated by an inertial switch or manually, from a small force applied to the back of the shield.

Advantages and disadvantages

In reviews from owners and operators, the design of the tool, its operational capabilities and level of maintainability are assessed positively.

The list of main advantages:

  • combination of dense layout and accessibility of internal equipment;
  • modern industrial design and excellent tool balancing;
  • low-cost maintenance and high level of maintainability;
  • interchangeability of standardized spare parts and consumables.

Over the entire period since the start of production of the Husqvarna chainsaw 55, no design or operational defects have been identified. Individual wishes and recommendations are aimed at further improvement of individual units and component systems.

Owner reviews

I would like to congratulate the Swedes on their holiday. This year my Husqvarna chainsaw celebrates its fifth anniversary of impeccable operation. I read reviews from owners of other models and don’t always understand why spend money and nerves on maintaining Chinese consumer goods, especially since the cost of branded chainsaws is more than moderate. Novel

After 9 years of operation, the Husqvarna 55 saw required service repair, and the tool was disassembled before my eyes. I don’t know how much of it is from Brazilian assembly, but there are Chinese components. The car as a whole is strong, if it weren’t for the decarbonized gasoline from a private gas station and the oil substitutes, I wouldn’t even know where this service is located. Dan

Carburetor adjustment

In order to adjust the Husqvarna 55 carburetor, there is no need to have a special tool, since the adjusting screws are made to fit a regular slotted screwdriver. To make adjustment easier, you can use an electronic tachometer, which quite accurately determines the speed of the saw, but this is not necessary.

Fine adjustment of the Wallbro carburetor should be carried out only after the chainsaw has been running for at least 5 minutes. Otherwise, it will not be possible to achieve the desired result.

Before you start adjusting the carburetor, you need to clean the saw and its air filter. If necessary, for example, in cases where the filter has mechanical damage, it must be replaced. It is also worth paying attention to the presence of oil smudges under the flywheel and clutch, which indicate that the crankshaft oil seals do not cope with their purpose and allow air to leak into the engine crankcase.

Very important: under no circumstances should you adjust the carburetor of a chainsaw that has a depressurized crankcase, as this will lead to problems with the crankshaft bearings in the future.

If you look in more detail, at the moment when there is a slight air leak, it can be compensated by adjusting the carburetor. This is extremely dangerous for a chainsaw, because when air is sucked into the crankcase through the oil seals, the lubrication of the crankshaft bearings deteriorates, and since they rotate at very high speeds, they will not last long in this mode.

The Wallbro carburetor of the Husqvarna 55 chainsaw has three adjusting screws. Screw L, which is responsible for adjusting the operation of the engine in low speed mode, screw H - for adjusting traction and the number of maximum revolutions, and screw T, which changes the position of the throttle valve, thereby increasing the number of idle speeds.

Preliminary adjustment is carried out with the saw stopped, by setting the carburetor adjusting screws H and L to the position 1.5 - 2 turns from fully tightened. Screw T must be unscrewed as much as possible. Next, you need to start the chainsaw and let it run for at least 5 minutes. This is necessary for the engine to warm up to operating temperature.

The final adjustment of the carburetor begins with adjusting the screw L; for this, with the chainsaw running, use this screw to set the maximum idle speed, after which the screw is turned counterclockwise a quarter turn, i.e. approximately 90 degrees. If the engine stalls in this position, you can increase the number of idle speeds using screw T, gradually tightening it clockwise.

Next, the Husqvarna 55 is tested for throttle response and traction under load. If the maximum revolutions are not enough, then you can increase their number using screw H, tightening it a little. By tightening the adjusting screws H and L, we reduce the amount of fuel in the fuel mixture and accordingly increase the amount of air, which leads to an increase in speed, but a decrease in traction. When adjusting, it is necessary to achieve results in which the saw pulls well, picks up speed and does not smoke much. If the engine smokes, this indicates that the fuel mixture is very rich in gasoline and with such an adjustment, even if the chainsaw starts well on a hot one, when starting a cold engine, the spark plug will be flooded, which will significantly complicate starting.

If you do not have experience in adjusting a carburetor, then it is better to entrust the adjustment of the carburetor to a specialist; this will save your time, nerves and money, because if the carburetor is adjusted incorrectly, the consequences will not take long to arrive.
