Chainsaw Husqvarna 140 - model for private use

The Husqvarna 140 chainsaw is a product of the world-famous Swedish company Husqvarna, which began its activities back in 1689. Initially, the company produced weapons for its soldiers, but since 1970, the range has changed; construction and gardening equipment and tools began to roll off the assembly lines of factories.

Information component

Filled with useful information, the operating instructions contain information on preparing the tool for operation, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting on your own.

By following these recommendations, the owner of the tool can correctly adjust the carburetor and saw chain, and also use original spare parts to perform simple repairs.

The full operational capabilities of the Husqvarna 140 chainsaw can be confirmed by the results of preliminary tests and a large number of positive reviews from owners.

Where to use a chainsaw

Judging by the power, the saw is intended for periodic work on a personal plot, preparing firewood for a barbecue, as well as for simple work on construction sites. The relatively low weight and dimensions of the chainsaw, combined with average power indicators, make it possible to use the chainsaw in the construction of houses from timber and solid logs, and when carrying out roofing work. Using more powerful chainsaws for such purposes is quite uncomfortable.

Husqvarna 140 is perfect for preparing several cubes of firewood for heating a private home.

Specifications

The dry weight of the saw is 4.4 kg. The model is equipped with a 2-strong, economical carburetor internal combustion engine with a volume of 40.9 cm3.

To operate the power unit, a mixture of high-octane gasoline and heat-resistant semi-synthetic motor oil is used. The fuel reserve for autonomous operation is 300 ml.

The engine life is increased due to the manufacture of parts of the crank group from forged steel and the application of a wear-resistant porous-chrome coating to the cylinder mirror.

Operational capabilities expanded:

  • the presence of an easy start system and vibration damper;
  • using highly effective air purification technology Air Injection;
  • simplified maintenance of an easily removable air intake;
  • combined air damper control.

Instructions

Carburetor adjustment

Before removing or adjusting the carburetor on a Husqvarna 140 chainsaw, read the manufacturer's instructions.
The instructions must be followed exactly to avoid subsequent incorrect operation or malfunctions. When Carburetor Adjustment May Be Required

  • The engine stalls or does not start.
  • Increased fuel consumption and increased exhaust gas levels.
  • Failure of screw fixation.
  • Wear of the engine and piston system.
  • Formation of blockage.

In each case, you will need to disassemble and wash the carburetor. To perform the correct operation, you will need to adjust one or all three screws:

  • L – low engine speed.
  • H – high engine speed.
  • T – idle speed.

The engine must be warm. The air filter will need to be cleaned if necessary and ensure that it is not clogged. Using the T-screw, you need to completely stop the chain; to do this, the screw must be turned counterclockwise.

Adjustment work

The standard factory setting of the fuel system is made using averaged data, which during use is adjusted by the user taking into account external factors.

The chainsaw carburetor is adjusted in a sequence specified in the instructions, after cleaning the air intake filter and warming up the engine. By changing the characteristics of the air-gasoline emulsion, the engine is brought to an operating mode that is optimal in terms of power and efficiency.

The main signs of correct configuration:

  • good throttle response and traction characteristics;
  • stability of operating and idle modes;
  • economical fuel consumption;
  • no detonation noise.

The reason for a negative result may be air leaks, the presence of water in the carburetor, or clogged jets.

How the mechanism works

Almost all tools, both foreign (Husqvarna, Makita, Shtil, Partner 350), and Chinese chainsaws, and domestic (Druzhba, Ural), are designed the same. Therefore, finding the reason why the device does not start and stalls will not be difficult.

There are four elements where problems may arise:

  • The fuel for which the carburetor is responsible;
  • Lubrication;
  • The air that enters through the air filter;
  • A spark, the quality of which depends on the ignition unit.

Let's start with the fact that all tools start up differently - hot and cold. Two commonly used mechanisms are responsible for this process.

Be sure to look at what is written in the user manual. It states that when turning it on, you need to make sure that the emergency stop brake is engaged. But starting a saw with a brake is much more difficult, so sometimes it’s better not to turn on the brake.

As you can find out from the instructions, inside the body there is a fuel tank and an engine, and outside there is a saw part (bar with chain), a handle and a starter.

First you need to figure out exactly how the tool won’t start. For example, the saw starts up, but immediately stalls, or loses power and cutting quality.

It is very important to consider the quality of the fuel. If the mixture is prepared incorrectly or has deteriorated over time, then even such reliable tools as the Ural or Husqvarna 145 will not work

The instructions must indicate the proportions and special oil specifically for your chainsaw.

Another common problem is that the user fills the candle during startup. It needs to be inspected; if it is completely dry, then fuel is not passing into the cylinder.

If you see black carbon deposits or a lot of fuel, then the carburetor may not be properly regulating the fuel supply.

If your saw tool starts, but immediately stalls, then the problem needs to be looked for in the carburetor jet or fuel filter. Perhaps they are clogged.

To check if the breather is damaged, you need to disconnect the fuel hose from the carburetor and see if the fuel mixture leaks out of it.

If the saw does not start when hot, then the problem may be in the muffler. Sometimes it gets clogged from the exhaust itself.

Quite often, saw breakdowns occur due to a small amount of chain lubricant. This happens when the channels are clogged or the oil line is leaking.

Also inspect the connections of the pipes with the oil pump fittings to see if they are leaking.

It is very bad when a breakdown occurs in the cylinder. When examining it, you may find unevenness or chips, and this may be the cause of the problem.

Saw set

The removable cutting equipment kit includes a proprietary 360 mm long bar and a wear-resistant saw chain model H37 with a standard pitch of 3/8 inches. The power and torque reserve of the engine allows operation of the saw with a more productive bar 40 cm long.

Oil supply to the working area for lubrication and cooling of the headset is provided by a standard pump with a fixed capacity of 13 ml/min. Consumables are taken from an oil reservoir with a capacity of 200 ml.

Injury situations are prevented by the quick operation of the chain locking mechanism. The inertial emergency stop brake is triggered by a reverse impact when the headset fails to enter the cut or the safety shield moves slightly forward.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Husqvarna 140 series chainsaw showed excellent results already at the testing stage, which were confirmed by reviews from specialists and ordinary users.

The tool combines modern operational and technical characteristics with maximum operator comfort. Its advantages:

  • quick running-in of a chainsaw
  • optimal balance between balancing and the shape of the body and handles convenient for working grip;
  • easy access to equipment and filling necks of fuel and oil tanks for tool maintenance;
  • minimum level of operating vibration and noise discomfort for its class;
  • the model is equipped with a booster pump, modern quick start and emergency stop systems, two-stage air purification, and a mechanism without instrumental saw chain tension;
  • the use of advanced X-Torq technology is guaranteed to provide significant (up to 20%) fuel savings and a reduction in the amount of toxic emissions in exhaust gases by more than 50%.

Working with a saw does not require professional qualifications from the operator. The skills of transverse, longitudinal and the most complex diagonal sawing of different types of wood are acquired in the process of work. The length of the tire and the presence of a reliable toothed stop allow you to confidently work with log and lumber material with a diameter of up to 30 cm.

During the entire operation of this model, no obvious technical and operational deficiencies in the design were identified. The lack of visual monitoring of filling tank levels and automatic dosing of chain oil are features of the budget configuration.

A higher level of working equipment is a characteristic feature of technically advanced models, the price of which is significantly higher.

  • check and clean the filters;
  • reconfigure the carburetor;
  • Clean or replace the spark plug.

The chain does not receive oil:

  • clean the channels carrying lubricant;
  • check the oil tank, add oil.

Analogs

Only the developments of leading manufacturers of innovative chainsaw equipment can compete with Husqvarna brand products. In the Russian household appliances market, demand has stabilized for models of the same type in terms of power, price range and purpose - STIHL MS 180-14, Oleo-Mac GS 35C-14 and Partner P842.

Carburetor adjustment

In order to adjust the Husqvarna 55 carburetor, there is no need to have a special tool, since the adjusting screws are made to fit a regular slotted screwdriver. To make adjustment easier, you can use an electronic tachometer, which quite accurately determines the speed of the saw, but this is not necessary.

Before you start adjusting the carburetor, you need to clean the saw and its air filter. If necessary, for example, in cases where the filter has mechanical damage, it must be replaced

It is also worth paying attention to the presence of oil smudges under the flywheel and clutch, which indicate that the crankshaft oil seals are not coping with their purpose and allow air to leak into the engine crankcase

If you look in more detail, at the moment when there is a slight air leak, it can be compensated by adjusting the carburetor. This is extremely dangerous for a chainsaw, because when air is sucked into the crankcase through the oil seals, the lubrication of the crankshaft bearings deteriorates, and since they rotate at very high speeds, they will not last long in this mode.

The Wallbro carburetor of the Husqvarna 55 chainsaw has three adjusting screws. Screw L, which is responsible for adjusting the operation of the engine in low speed mode, screw H - for adjusting traction and the number of maximum revolutions, and screw T, which changes the position of the throttle valve, thereby increasing the number of idle speeds.

Preliminary adjustment is carried out with the saw stopped, by setting the carburetor adjusting screws H and L to the position 1.5 - 2 turns from fully tightened. Screw T must be unscrewed as much as possible. Next, you need to start the chainsaw and let it run for at least 5 minutes. This is necessary for the engine to warm up to operating temperature.

The final adjustment of the carburetor begins with adjusting the screw L; for this, with the chainsaw running, use this screw to set the maximum idle speed, after which the screw is turned counterclockwise a quarter turn, i.e. approximately 90 degrees. If the engine stalls in this position, you can increase the number of idle speeds using screw T, gradually tightening it clockwise.

Next, the Husqvarna 55 is tested for throttle response and traction under load. If the maximum revolutions are not enough, then you can increase their number using screw H, tightening it a little. By tightening the adjusting screws H and L, we reduce the amount of fuel in the fuel mixture and accordingly increase the amount of air, which leads to an increase in speed, but a decrease in traction. When adjusting, it is necessary to achieve results in which the saw pulls well, picks up speed and does not smoke much. If the engine smokes, this indicates that the fuel mixture is very rich in gasoline and with such an adjustment, even if the chainsaw starts well on a hot one, when starting a cold engine, the spark plug will be flooded, which will significantly complicate starting.

Owner reviews

I bought a brand new Husqvarna last year. Does the job 100%. Even when cutting tough and dense wood, the drop in speed is not critical. I like the external design; it’s not a shame to appear in public with such a car. The disadvantages are the absence of a drain valve in the sealed cap of the gas tank, and a tight starter. It’s a long way to take it to the service center, after the warranty expires I’ll try to solve the problems myself. Artem

After an unsuccessful purchase of a cheap Chinese chainsaw, I decided to enter the European level. I ordered Shtil 180, they delivered a completely different model, which turned out to be partially dismantled. I made the right choice in favor of the Husqvarna 140 chainsaw. During three seasons of flawless operation, I replaced only one magneto under warranty. The headset has fully served its life. Now I use the tool complete with a bar and a Shtil saw chain. Practice has shown that this is the best option of all possible. Misha

Chainsaw Husqvarna – 140

Modern technology in Husqvarna 445e

When designing the Husqvarna 445, Swedish engineers introduced several modern technologies into it. One of the most interesting is the X-Torq engine system. Thanks to the special design of the cylinder and carburetor, exhaust gases in such an engine are purged with clean air, and not with a new portion of the fuel mixture, like many competing gasoline saws.

Also, the Husqvarna 445 has a convenient fastening for the top cover and fuel filter, as well as the fuel and oil tank caps, which do not require the use of additional tools to open.

Another system that is available in the chainsaw is Air Injection; it purifies the air before it enters the air filter and extends its service life.

To relieve stress from the starting mechanism, a decompression valve is installed on the 445, which not only makes starting the chainsaw easier, but also significantly extends the life of the starter.

And last, but not least, is the primer. A special pump that is installed on the body of the chainsaw and is designed to pump fuel. A primer is used when starting the saw after a long period of inactivity.
