Based on the technical characteristics of the KT815 series of bipolar transistors, they are manufactured using epitaxial-planar technology. It consists of several groups of devices, mainly differing in the maximum possible transmission voltage between the collector and emitter contacts.

These are silicon, low-frequency, high-power devices with an NPN structure. They can be confidently called one of the most common transistors in electrical engineering of Soviet times before 1990. They were widely used in linear and key circuits, used in outdated domestic amplifiers (for example, Odyssey U-10, Vega 10U-120), various converters and pulsed devices.

Color music console for P213.

A very simple color music console can be assembled using three P213 transistors. Three separate amplifier stages are designed to amplify three audio frequency bands. The cascade on transistor VT1 amplifies the signal at a frequency above 1000Hz, on transistor VT2 - from 1000 to 200Hz, on transistor VT3 - below 200Hz. Frequency separation is carried out by simple RC filters.

The input signal is taken from the output of the speakers. Its level is adjusted using potentiometer R1. To adjust the brightness level of each channel, trimming resistors R3, R5, R7 are used. The bias at the bases of the transistors is determined by the values ​​of resistors R2, R4, R6. The load of each stage is two parallel-connected light bulbs (6.3 V x 0.28 A). The circuit is powered by a power supply with an output voltage of 8-9 V and a maximum current of over 2A.

P213 transistors can have a significant spread in current amplification. Therefore, the values ​​of resistors R2, R4, R6 must be selected for each stage individually. The collector current is adjusted to such a value that the filaments of the lamps glow a little in the absence of an input signal. In this case, the transistors will definitely heat up. The stability of germanium semiconductor devices is highly dependent on temperature. Therefore, it is necessary to install P213 on radiators with an area of ​​75 sq.cm.

This transistor cannot be called powerful, despite the 8 in the marking. It is closer to medium power, and in high-power circuits it is used as a preliminary for 819s and higher. As the main drawback, I would highlight the gain spread, and in some circuits this is important. For some reason, the cutoff frequency is not given, but it is also not very high. In a word - an ordinary, averagely parameterized transistor for household use. Yes, the initial nonlinearity is also tightened up; the amplifications are not good for all classes.

The cutoff frequency of KT815 for a circuit with a common emitter is 3 MHz. ps Like all domestic “purely civilian” transistors, the spread of KT815 parameters is very large.

I assume that the civilian “KT” transistors were a rejection of the military “2T” transistors. We tested the crystals, the better ones went into metal, the worse ones went into plastic. It was precisely because of this dispersion that factories even had such a profession as “regulator”.

Foreign transistors are also different. I ordered BD139 and BD140 from the Chinese on Aliexpress, actually analogues of KT814 and KT815. I was tired of choosing pairs according to h21e. To be able to talk about high repeatability of parameters, you need to buy from Western suppliers. But I looked at the retail prices for the BD139 and BD140 on Mouser Eletronics and I'm sick of them. Abroad, in the same way, transistors for household appliances are made in China, for military and industrial needs in Europe and the USA. The first ones will please your soul, the second ones are strictly based on technology and with careful output control. And the latter will never make it into consumer electronics, because they are unprofitable.

Installation conditions

When using KT815 transistors and their installation, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • The bend of the transistor leads should be at least 5 mm from the body, while the radius of curvature should be in the region of 1.5 to 2 mm;
  • Installation in which force will be transmitted to the housing is not allowed;
  • When soldering a transistor, it is necessary to keep the soldering iron tip at a distance of at least 5 mm from the body;
  • The leads must be soldered at a temperature not exceeding 250 °C for no more than 2 seconds.

Pinout

The pinout for the entire KT815 series is the same. The transistor is widely used in a plastic case for hole mounting - KT-27 (foreign analogue of TO-126). If you look at its alphanumeric designation, then the first leg on the left is the emitter (E), the second is the collector (K), the third is the base (B). There is a hole (3 mm) for attachment to the heat sink. The weight of such products does not exceed 1 gram.

This transistor is also found for surface mounting KT-89 (aka imported DPAK). In this solution, it has the following pinout - B.K.E. (collector on top). Now this is a rarity; it is produced exclusively in Belarus at the enterprises of JSC INTEGRAL.

The collector output of these electronic components, in both types of housings (KT-27 and KT-89), has a small metal base at the back for connection to the radiator. It can be seen if you look at the product from the back.

Technical specifications

KT815B has average technical parameters when compared with other transistors in this series. The datasheet states that it is capable of passing through itself a maximum voltage of up to 50 V and a current of up to 1.5A, with a possible power loss of up to 10 W (using a radiator). Such values ​​allow it to be used for various electronic applications. Here is a detailed list of maximum permissible electrical operating modes:

  • voltage between: K-E up to 50 V (REB ≤100 Ohm); E-B up to 5 V;
  • collector current: constant up to 1.5 A; pulse up to 3 A;
  • base current up to 0.5 A;
  • power dissipation on the collector: up to 10 W (with radiator); up to 1 W (without heat sink);
  • temperature: crystal up to +150 °C; environmental range -60 to +125 °C;
  • weight up to 0.9 g.

KT815B has a relatively small static current gain H21E (from 40). At the same time, in practice it is significantly less than that presented in the technical description. It is very difficult to select devices with the same H21E, much less find a complementary pair for it. Therefore, most radio amateurs prefer to use its foreign analogues in their developments.

Electrical

Next, we will consider the main electrical parameters of the KT815B. They are indicated for an ambient temperature around the housing of no more than +25°C. A separate column shows the measurement conditions.

In the technical description of the device, Russian manufacturers do not show the parameter “thermal resistance between the junction and the housing.” Most radio amateurs use its value for calculations - 10 °C/W. It is also generally accepted that this series has a cut-off frequency fT that does not exceed 3 MHz, therefore it is considered low-frequency.

Analogs

KT815B(KT-37) has imported analogues, these include BD135(TO-126).
