How to use a Svenson square: instructions in Russian metric triangle: how to choose? review + video

Swanson's Speed Square is a special square combined with a protractor.
It can be used in numerous construction operations, which explains the features of its design.

[contents]

At the initial stages of construction, the most popular function is its stop-shelf function . Due to the latter, the device can be securely positioned on one side of a wooden board, after which it serves as a guide for the saw. 90 and 45 degree cuts are perfect.

A certain skill will allow the master to perfectly carry out cuts at other angles. To press the metric square to the board itself, 1 clamp is often used.

How to use the tool

The Svenson square comes with instructions.
Its first part shows in detail, with diagrams and drawings, using the example of a gable roof, how to use carpentry tools. When ordering a device, pay attention that the instructions are in Russian or English. The second half is completely filled with tables

Using carpentry tools

The easiest way is to draw lines parallel to the side surface. This is the function of a surface planer.

  1. Place the base surface against the board.
  2. Select the desired size at the cutout along the second leg.
  3. Insert a pencil into it.
  4. Move the device along the end, resting it against the board.

The result will be a parallel line along which you can cut the board to the desired width or make grooves.

By applying the square with its base to the side surface, you can immediately draw an angle of 90° and 45° along the leg and hypotenuse.

When marking the rafters, the Svenson square is rotated relative to the extreme point to the desired value, choosing the angle of inclination of the rafter itself on scale 1. A line should be marked along the leg or cut off immediately.

To create a strong roof structure, you need to know how to use Swenson's roofing tools. In order for the valley to sit exactly in its place, the angle of inclination of the roof slope is set off on scale 2. The position of the valley or corner rafter itself is checked by the value on scale 1. The number must match the slope of the roof.

Markings are carried out similarly on scales 3 and 4 if the slope is specified as a percentage.

This is a bolt with washers and a nut. After installing the Svenson square in the desired position, the boss is installed on the scale with the emphasis on the board. This creates a second fulcrum. Now the inclination of the leg remains constant when the tool is transferred to other boards and beams. When moving along the end, you can draw any number of parallel lines at a given angle. This method allows you to immediately, without marking, cut the rafters, leaning the saw on the end of the device.

If you put washers on the bolt from below so that their total thickness with the head is 10 mm, you get a third support point for the carpentry fixture. Now, with the help of Swenson's invention, it is possible to mark parts on large sheets. The tool is parallel to the sheet and can be moved in any direction.

The accuracy of this method of drawing lines and angles is less. An error occurs because there is a 10mm gap and the pencil may tilt.

Why do we need tables?

The calculation of the roof is based on half the width of the building and the angle of inclination of the slope. Usually the design is calculated based on the Pythagorean theorem, like a right triangle. Since only one leg and angle are known, complex formulas with tangents and cotangents have to be used.

The tables located in the second half of the instructions for the Swenson device indicate the lengths of the rafters and valleys, depending on the specified parameters.

The Swenson device is worth purchasing, even if you are building only one house. Its disadvantage is that equilateral roofs are marked on it. You can use the table if the values exactly match the existing ones. Otherwise, you will still have to count or use special programs.

If you find an error, please select a piece of text and press Ctrl+Enter.

Why do we need tables?

When creating different types of roofs, you have to join the roofing elements at different angles. To determine the required size of the sides of the roof, use the Pythagorean formula, where the angle of inclination and one leg are known. To simplify the task and not have to deal with complex calculations, there are ready-made tables. They can be found along with the instructions for using the product.

The tables indicate the parameters of the sides of the roof and valleys and the angle at which the parts should be placed relative to each other. This significantly saves the builder's time. The use of Svenson's invention is only possible when creating a roof with equal sides.

A Svenson square is a multifunctional device that allows you to use one tool to measure a distance, quickly measure and draw an angle, mark a roof or draw a circle. Its purchase will be worth it, even if the protractor is useful for the construction of only one house.

  1. Drawing perpendiculars. Using a corner, lines are drawn onto the part at right angles to its edge. The tool is held directly to the edge of the boards, its pointed part will indicate the location of the line, a straight line is drawn using the square part of the device.
  2. Checking the connection of workpieces at right angles. It is performed by simply applying the device to the elements to measure the correctness of the angles. Often used in the manufacture and assembly of furniture.
  3. Drawing lines at an angle of 45°. Such an angle in an isosceles triangle (which is the tool) will be between any edge of the board and its diagonal. Therefore, after applying the square side of the square to the edge of the part, the desired line is simply drawn.
  4. Drawing parallel lines. The tool is applied to the edge of the part, the required distance is measured (for example, the part that needs to be cut), the square moves along the edge of the board until the mark is made, and the pencil is held at the original level. This way you can draw a line parallel to the edge of the workpiece.
  5. Reading and drawing different angles. The right angle of the device is taken as the fulcrum, and the degree marking is located on its hypotenuse. A pencil mark is made at the desired value and the desired line is drawn using the square side of the square.
  6. Circular saw cutting direction. The square is placed flat on the board, secured with a clamp or a special clamp, and cutting is performed parallel to the leg of the device.
  7. The square can be used as a regular ruler to measure the required dimensions.

The thing is specific and is more needed by specialists to facilitate and conveniently perform large volumes of work. The price of branded samples is quite high, so it’s up to you to decide whether to make such a purchase or not.

Metric Swenson square

How to install a Russian stove with a stove bench and a stove with your own hands: drawings - review + video - step-by-step instructions

So what is good about the original Swanson speed square and what does it represent? In the classic version, this square also combines a protractor in order to most accurately mark out parts during the production of the rafter system of a frame house, a system of stairs and flights of stairs.

Svenson's square from Aliexpress.

Also, the Svenson metric square is simply irreplaceable in the construction industry in the production of various products with complex shapes, furniture elements, and plumbing work, when it is necessary to measure the constituent elements and install them at different angles of inclination.

Instructions for use Swenson's square

The main purpose of the Svenson square

In our country, the Svenson square is always accompanied by instructions in Russian for ease of use. What kind of work and how can you do it with its help:

  1. Check that the right angle between the joints is maintained - check by applying a square to the surface.
  2. Apply perpendicular lines by placing a corner on the part close to its edge - alignment with one of the straight edges of the product occurs. Thus, the sharp part of the device will show in which direction the line needs to be drawn.
  3. Reading and transferring angles of varying complexity onto the surface of products - the angle is measured on a model or plan and transferred using a protractor and a pencil line.
  4. Using a square to guide the blades of a circular saw. The square is applied to the board, jointly secured using special clamps, and a cut is made parallel to the location of the Svenson square.
  5. Parallel lines are transferred to the product by applying the device to the part, measuring the required distance and moving the square along the surface of the product in a straight line. The pencil movement is made in the same direction.
  6. One of the main functions of a square is to use it as an ordinary tape measure or ruler.

Note: The instructions for the Svenson square will help you use it at almost all stages of repair and construction, or in everyday life. However, the cost of the original can be quite high, taking into account delivery from the USA, so it is quite possible, using video tutorials, to make a Svenson square with your own hands.

Application

Here are some options for using a Svenson square:

  • as a shelf with a stop as a guide for straight cutting;
  • goniometer;
  • for marking the product;
  • as a means of trimming boards;
  • surface for transferring lines to the workpiece;
  • a tool for drawing a circle.

By attaching a square to a wooden sheet, you can immediately draw a straight line at any degree without additional measurements. If markings are not necessary, then it can be used to check the correctness of the measurements.

A professional carpenter's square can be used at the beginning of construction as a guide for the saw. It is placed on the stop, and a precise cut is made along the top line.

Carpenter's tools are used to quickly mark rafters. If you place the stop along the upper edge of the surface, then you can trim it along the side of the leg.

An unusual way to use Swanson's invention is to draw a circle of the selected diameter. Having a protractor on hand, you can use it like a regular ruler.

What is a swansson square

The device is a special type of square combined with a protractor and designed specifically for precise marking of parts in the manufacture of elements of rafter systems and stairs. The tool is widely used in the manufacture of building structures of complex shapes, furniture, metalworking and welding work, which requires marking parts at different angles.

The device is designed to perform the following main functions:

  • measuring various angles;
  • a kind of construction line;
  • transferring parallels and angles to workpieces;
  • thicknesser;
  • a level that works in conjunction with a plumb line;
  • as a stop when trimming boards and timber with a hand or circular electric saw.

Great convenience of combining all functions in one tool.

The device in the shape of an isosceles right triangle is made of durable aluminum alloys by stamping. The thick (5 mm) sole is a 2-sided stop. The legs and hypotenuse are milled. The product has milled divisions, numbers and marks with a depth of about 0.5 mm (the marks in the original products are deeper and are more clearly applied). Milled marks are practically indelible. The scales are stamped on both sides. The classic version has markings in inches, according to the standard size of wooden products in the USA, but metric Swanson squares are also produced. The protractor marks angles from 0 to 90 degrees. There is no special accuracy of measurements; there are no millimeter divisions on metric copies. The device is painted black, and the marks are covered with white paints.

Aluminum ensures the lightness of the tool with the necessary rigidity and reliability of the design. But plastic versions are also available. The devices are available in 2 sizes:

  • for work in stationary conditions 30.48 cm (12 inches);
  • convenient pocket version 17.8 cm (7 inches).

Some modifications come with special stops in the form of clamps, strips and bosses, which additionally serve as a kind of beacon for mass marking or sawing workpieces. The resulting clamp reliably presses the square and selects the protrusion of the shelves, which allows work on large flat surfaces.

The Svenson square comes with instructions detailing the procedure for performing operations and accompanying drawings.

The main purpose of the Swanson square is to cut rafter system elements in hip roofs with junctions at different angles; for this purpose, the device has 3 internal scales located under the outer angular scale. For experienced professionals, there is also a 4th scale, with slope units printed on a decimal base.

What are angles made of?

Modern squares are made from materials such as wood, plastic and metal.

The most reliable are metal tools that are not subject to deformation, which is very important when performing construction and repair work. One or two guides have scales through which you can control the distance

The length of the guides ranges from 60 to 1600 mm, which depends on the scope of the tool. The device has an L-shape, so among specialists who use these tools, you can find the name corner. A universal square is a small square. Unlike a square, the angle grinder has a hinged joint, which allows you to determine not only right angles.

Metal squares are made of carbon steel of the following grades:

  • X
  • U8A
  • 9X
  • ШХ15

During the manufacturing process, the tool is subjected to heat treatment, which allows the part to be hardened to a high hardness of 50-58 HRC. Manufacturers produce squares of three accuracy classes - 0, 1 and 2. The most accurate are devices with a zero accuracy class, which are used in metrology laboratories and verification services. Devices with accuracy class 1 are used by specialists - masons, carpenters, mechanics, welders. Less precise instruments belonging to the second class are used in everyday life by home craftsmen.

This is interesting! A square is also an isosceles right triangle in which two sides are at right angles. A tool of this shape is more accurate due to the fact that it has the same rigidity on any part of the plane.

Tool Features

From the description of the Svenson square, it is easy to determine that it was created for marking the wooden elements of a frame roof. A complex design requires precise observance of all angles so that the beams fit tightly with the cutting planes along the ridge and to the mauerlat.

Swenson's carpentry marking jigs are shaped like an isosceles triangle with an apex of 90°. One leg with a sole for support, protruding 10 mm in each direction. By applying a square to the side surface, along the second leg and hypotenuse, you can mark or immediately cut off the angles of 45° and 90°, which are most often found in carpentry work.

The metric square has several different shaped cutouts:

  • the main length is all hypotenuses with a width of about 10 mm;
  • along the leg without a base with notches;
  • a triangle with sides parallel to form the device itself.

Along the hypotenuse, along the edge of the Svenson square itself and along the edge of each cutout, there is a table marking the angles of inclination. The main rafters, additional rafters, valleys, and spacers are marked and cut off according to them.

All divisions and numbers are made by stamping with a 1 mm indentation. They are applied on both sides, do not erase and can additionally be filled with white paint. The square itself has a matte gray color, standard for duralumin, or is painted completely black.

The instructions included with the device contain a table for marking the lengths of beams and rafters, depending on the angle of inclination and size of the house.

Expand the functions and simplify the operation of the boss for the Svenson square. They screw into the cutout and allow you to fix the angle needed for marking and transfer it from one part to another without adjustment.

Instructions for Svenson square

Description of the Svenson square

A Swenson-type square has a special sole - a double-sided stop, which can be used as:

  • level;
  • square;
  • protractor;
  • protractor;
  • marking tool;
  • stop for power tools and much more.

It is convenient to use for installing rafter systems and in various types of frame construction. Naturally, nothing prevents it from being used for other needs.

For example, when welding, you can use it to position and fix parts (complete with a clamp).

The versatility of the Svenson square

But the special interest of the device lies precisely in its versatility, in the combination of many necessary functions in one object.

Its individual indicators are adjusted specifically to the standard board size typical for America. However, the carpenter's square is not impressively accurate - divisions measuring 1 millimeter are absent even in metric methods of execution.

Currently, there are many different versions of this tool, differing in the material used, size, and accompanying accessories.

For certain types of work, plastic products, for example, are convenient. Additional details, such as bosses or a strip, significantly expand its capabilities. However, they are not suitable for all models.

A classic option is the Swanson square with inch markings, but it is not equally suitable for everyone. There are also models with metric indicators.

Buying on Aliexpress: review of the Svenson square

Different models of the device have different quality and functionality, so in this case we will consider a specific option from Aliexpress.

This analogue of the Svenson square was ordered and received on this resource. What can you say about him?

It is made somewhat roughly, but it is durable and reliable, the thickness of its sole is approximately 5 mm, and the plates are about this figure. The device is made by stamping and painted black. The material is similar to aluminum alloy.

The hypotenuse and leg of the device are milled.

The material contains the necessary marks - numbers, divisions and marks. They are painted over with white paint and their depth is about half a millimeter. An original product has more accurate markings - clearer and deeper. The paint on the device holds up well. Even if you knock on it with a mallet (to check), it does not fall off, the product is not deformed.

But on the resulting square (new!) there are places where the paint has already been slightly torn off. Perhaps it was initially applied unevenly.

The measurement of the right angle convinced of its accuracy. The check was carried out using a metal tool and the method of turning over a square.

What can you say about the sole of the product?

It is not perfectly flat; it was not milled into a plane or an angle. There is a small deflection in it, which may have appeared as a result of stamping. It is very small, no more than half a millimeter. But the applied centimeter markings are striking in their accuracy.

Only you can decide for yourself.

This is a durable Svenson carpenter's square, which in addition has separate capabilities and functions.

Buying such an analog or original instrument is a business decision, a purely personal matter.

Types of test squares and features of their use

Verification products are classified into five types, which allows them to be used in various fields. Let's look at all types of testing devices and find out their purpose.

  1. UL - pattern. The scope of application of this type of tool is for marking and performing plumbing and assembly operations. Using a measuring device, you can control the perpendicularity of individual structural elements. High measurement accuracy is ensured by sharp measuring surfaces. One side of the tool has a short thick part, and the second long side has a thinned profile
  2. ULP - patterned flat also has one short and the second elongated part, only with the same profile thickness. The main purpose of the ULP tool is to carry out marking work on flat surfaces
  3. ULC - a patterned cylindrical device has the appearance of a hollow cylinder with chamfers. The base of the device and the side surface have a right angle equal to 90 degrees. Cylindrical squares are used as standard or reference tools in metrology stations and in mechanical engineering. The device is produced with zero and first class accuracy
  4. UP - flat. Consists of two sides located at an angle of 90 degrees. All sides of the tool are flat, and it is available in three types of accuracy - 0, 1 and 2
  5. USH - with a wide base. The tool is designed to check the perpendicularity of planes. The wide base allows you to install the device on a plane without the use of auxiliary devices

Squares are also divided into three main types, which we will consider in the next section.

Construction square - 90 photos of ordinary and special types of squares

To track the exact perpendicular between individual parts and surfaces, a specially designed calibration square is used

The tool is truly indispensable during construction work, when it is very important to measure the exact angle of 90 degrees, as well as during assembly, in which case a deviation will mean a defect

Where will you need a square

Metal squares are indispensable during installation and construction activities, in the production of parts and mechanisms, as well as in plumbing.

The image of this device is practically a symbol among carpenters, masons, and builders; it is also indispensable in factory conditions for quality control; its necessity is obvious both for interior and exterior work.

Tool selection

Verification triangles can be purchased at construction stores; the range offers various options.

  • Construction square, made of steel, used by home craftsmen, mechanics, carpenters, assemblers, etc.;
  • Granite angles are harder, more wear-resistant and not subject to destruction, like metals;
  • A square with a flexible metal ruler is most often found; this is the least durable option, but in some cases it is what is needed.

Selecting a square

In any case, the only thing we really expect from a square is its ability to hold a perfect perpendicular. Determining this property is as easy as shelling pears; you will need a regular A4 sheet; if you fold it in half, it will serve as an ideal test.

These types of tools have completely different dimensions, so before purchasing, you need to assess the scale of use of the square.

On large construction sites, large tools are used when assembling frames, repairing and finishing, but for interior work or manual assembly of parts, a medium or even small device is sufficient. Even specially reduced designs with millimeter markings are produced for miniature work.

Regarding the markings, we can make a reservation that it is better to check the quality of its application on the spot; it is often erased upon the first use.

Also think about what material to choose, for example, a wooden tool does not allow your fingers to slip, but just like a plastic square, it is not suitable for welding.

Special types of squares

The modern type of testing square is extremely convenient to use; it is a tool supplemented with an ampoule of liquid, like a bubble level. This design solves the problem of not being able to use two tools and make marks at the same time. If you have never come across one in your life, look at the photo of a square with a level function.

Another unusual device, very convenient for designers, is the small spoon. It is rather a protractor that allows you to measure an angle and transfer it without changes to a workpiece or drawing. The angle can be not only straight, but also acute or obtuse.

You can make such a square with your own hands from wood; you will need to connect the base and plywood feather using a drill and fasteners (According to the principle of a compass). Now you can independently measure, for example, the angle when plastering window slopes.

The joints are smooth and neat, and the surfaces are even fixed vertically. The angle of welding or soldering can be adjusted depending on the need; in general, the magnet is usually turned off to remove the fixation without effort and damage to the fresh seam.

It is important to understand that different objects have different masses, so it is not always possible to limit yourself to having one such tool. Heavy elements are attached to more powerful and massive magnets

All squares that can be purchased are classified into 4 levels of accuracy

When installing structures, when the angle is of decisive importance, class zero is used; other work can be carried out using accuracy class 2 or 3

What is heat capacity - total and specific

The concept of heat capacity is the ability of any material to heat up. And although in ordinary life we attach little importance to such properties of objects, during construction this coefficient of total heat capacity is necessarily taken into account, this primarily concerns the selected materials. Especially when planning thermal insulation.

The ability to conduct heat and retain it for a long time is an important factor and must be taken into account if you plan to build a residential building. There is a difference between the total and specific heat capacity of sand. Also considered excellent are the following concepts:

  • the ability to perceive, retain and accumulate heat energy;
  • the initial physical characteristic of the heat capacity of the mineral that is part of the sand.

The main nuance that must be taken into account when calculating heat capacity is not only the additional sand fillers or molecular structure, but also its mass. Due to the direct dependence of the amount of sand on the composition, the digital heat capacity indicator constantly floats.

The final parameter takes into account the thermophysical characteristics of the sand material and is tied to a specific amount of sand.

In this case, the volume of material is practically excluded from the calculations, or rather, only its minimum value is used, 1 kg of washed sand mixture.

For the convenience of determining the heat capacity of a material, in this case sand, ready-made tables are used that contain calculations. They are used by builders to carry out calculations.

Thermal conductivity is also an important value taken into account when planning thermal insulation work. Selecting the right material is very important; it determines how much thermal energy you will have to expend to heat the finished room.

The main problem is the low heat capacity of the sand material and the finished room, especially if it is a residential building, requires additional thermal insulation. Thermal conductivity depends on the density of the material itself. Another important point is the moisture content of the sand.

As indicated in the table below, as it increases, the thermal conductivity of the sand material also increases.

Svenson's square on aliexpress

You can save a lot when purchasing this device using Chinese sites, such as the widespread Aliexpress. In Moscow, the Swanson square can be evaluated in a touching showroom on the square of three train stations, and on the Internet, by searching for “Swanson square swanson” you can get results in the price category from 178 rubles to 2.8 thousand.

It can be used in numerous construction operations, which explains the features of its design.

At the initial stages of construction, the most popular function is its stop-shelf function.

Types of impregnations

Based on the type of main component, impregnations are divided into acrylic, alkyd and glyphthalic.

Acrylic

They are presented in compositions for various purposes, among which there are means that allow strengthening porous walls through deep penetration.

They are used for impregnation of walls made of concrete, brick, wood and its derivatives. Acrylic primers are used for canvases of any density, have no pungent odors and dry within 2-5 hours.

Alkyd

Manufactured using alkyd resins, they prevent rust and are in demand when finishing metal surfaces. Also, alkyd primer mixtures increase the moisture resistance of wooden walls and prevent the appearance of fungus and mold. They are applied in 1-2 layers and dry within 15-24 hours.

Glypthal

They consist of a mixture of glyphthalic resins, mineral additives, stabilizers and modifying components, and are characterized by a low penetration coefficient and an unpleasant odor. Before priming the walls before wallpapering, you need to take care of ventilation.

Used on wood and metal surfaces in rooms with low humidity levels. Drying takes about 24 hours.

Bench square, its use, recommendations for selection

A metal bench square consists of two rulers connected to each other at a right angle. It is used when drawing straight lines, perpendicular, and various lines on the wall. This tool allows you to draw not only a straight line, but also any angle of inclination. They check the accuracy of the angles.

There are several types of squares depending on the application:

  • UP - flat angles. Squares with metal flat plates differ in width and thickness. Used for all types of construction. A mechanic, carpenter, milling machine operator, or turner cannot do without such a tool.
  • УШ - the corner has a wide base. One side consists of a T-shaped profile, the other is flat, they are connected to each other at a right angle.
  • ULP - pattern testing squares. They are used for precise measurement of finished products, parts, and structures. Accurate measurement in ultrasonic testing

Wooden and plastic are suitable only for carpentry work.

Application of a metalworker's square

It is used in all construction and installation work, in the production of structures, devices, instruments, machines, in plumbing and assembly work related to the degree marking of parts. In laboratories where precise measurements are needed.

A mason or carpenter cannot do without a square. The tool is used both for interior work and for large-scale work.

Not a single construction site, production machinery, or metalworking industry, from a workshop to large factories and workshops, can do without a measuring device.

Application in construction

  • during welding executions, design solutions, during the soldering process;
  • when cutting aerated concrete blocks;
  • when installing finished blocks, checking products;
  • during the construction of houses, structures, laying tiles on the floor, sidewalks and various working moments.

Metal squares with a wide heel (WSH) are used in mechanical engineering, turning, and milling work.

This device is used to check the accuracy of operation of mechanized machines, the connection of parts, fastening joints, when guaranteed accuracy of pairing is needed, and the calibration of mutually located parts and moving mechanisms.

Calibration gauges are used mainly as test gauges in technical control departments and in quality assessment laboratories where certification is carried out. Pattern calibration angles are used in mass production to check right angles. Such tools are used in metalworking, installation, construction, and milling fields of activity.

A combination square is widely used; it has double-sided markings. This design allows you to measure and control any angles. A bubble level is built into this mechanism and has advantages over the user:

  • marking external and internal corners;
  • wide measurement range from 20 to 170 degrees;
  • allows you to see several angles at the same time;
  • you can combine different positions;
  • easy to assemble and disassemble.

How to choose the right metal corner

We choose a tool for long service. A metal structure is better suited

When choosing, you need to pay attention to the angle; you can check it with an A4 sheet. We choose so that the measuring divisions are knocked out; those applied with paint will quickly be erased

A more convenient tool is the one with measuring divisions on a double scale. The handle is made of the same material, but can be supplemented with another. Usually the handle is made with rubber inserts on a metal or plastic structure.

There are many types of locksmith metal corners. It is available in small and large sizes, we choose according to its intended purpose. Models are available with a level element, the level indicator is inserted into one of the planes, is convenient to use, and simultaneously checks the correctness of the angle and the level of the surface.

UP 100*60 Kl.1 is deciphered as follows: the calibration square has a size of 100 mm by 60 mm, accuracy class No. 1. This is how the measuring tool is marked.

Metal corners are prepared from:

  1. alloy tool steel;
  2. case-hardened steel;
  3. carbon steel.

The price of the corner depends on the cost of the material.

Metal corners differ not only in planes, but also in the angle values in degrees 45, 60, 90, 129, 30, 120. The remaining angle values are made using template options.

Conditions for constructing an Abyssinian well

Before constructing an Abyssinian well, the feasibility of its installation should be assessed. A number of questions are clarified in advance:

The depth at which the aquifer lies. It is necessary to at least approximately estimate the probable depth of the formation and find out the type of soil in the area. If possible, you need to familiarize yourself with the condition of wells in neighboring areas, obtain information from neighbors about changes in water level, study geodetic maps or conduct exploratory drilling

You should pay attention to the plants near the site. Blackberries, lingonberries, wild rosemary or bird cherry can indicate the proximity of water

Dowsing frames made of wicker, copper or aluminum also help determine the presence of aquifers. Water quality assessment. You should ask if there are any sources of chemical or bacterial pollution nearby, and find out the location of sewage pits and septic tanks. Well installation location. It is easy to install a well in a technical room or in the house itself. In this case, the well will not freeze in winter, and the equipment, along with the pumping station, will be protected from any adverse natural conditions. On the site, it is better to place the “igloo” closer to the house. In this case, water can be brought into the house by digging a trench under the main line, installing a caisson or an additional shelter with insulation. Estimation of the “needle” flow rate. The indicator depends on the saturation of the aquifer. You should focus on the water level in wells in areas located nearby. It is advisable to find out if they dry out during the summer months.

The water yield of an installed well can be determined by noting the time of filling a certain measuring container, for example, a 10-liter bucket. When carrying out pumping, you should perform this operation several times with an interval of a quarter of an hour, derive the average value and determine the specific flow rate of the “needle”.

A favorable forecast for high productivity of the Abyssinian well is where the water-bearing layer is found in a vein with coarse sand. With low power and poor water yield of the layer, it may be necessary to additionally install a water storage tank with a capacity of 500-1000 liters.

How to use the tool

Due to the multi-tasking nature of Swenson's invention, instructions for its use differ depending on the task for which it is currently being used. To mark an angle and draw a line at a 90° or 45° angle, you need to attach a stop to the board, then draw a line along the desired side. You can also check the correctness of a previously marked right or acute angle. To do this, the square is applied to the marking.

The hypotenuse is responsible for measuring the degree of inclination in degrees. To use the Svenson protractor as a protractor, you need to place a stop on the board, find the desired angle of inclination on the tool, turn it and immediately draw a line.

To use the protractor as a guide, you need to fix the tool on the board with a clamp, and then go through it with a circular saw or jigsaw.

To mark the roof, place the stylus at the starting point, turn the square along the leg side until the desired value is reached. Then they make marks with a stylus, or cut them off.

To draw a circle with a square, you need to install Svenson’s invention at the starting point and fix it. Place the point of a pencil on the side with the marks. By turning the device clockwise, a circle of a given diameter is obtained.

Checking the angle of the circular saw

The angle of the circular saw may shift slightly over time and with use. A quick way to check the angles of a circular saw is to use a metric square. Place the square vertically, resting it on the protruding side, attach the disk to it and compare whether it deviates from the plane of the square.

Now you know how to get the most out of your metric square! Maybe you know some other tricks? Tell us about them in the comments
