Gasoline for lawn mowers: which one to choose and how to dilute it?

For those people who have a dacha or a country house, very often there are difficulties with overgrown grass on the site. As a rule, it needs to be mowed and overgrown several times a season. Currently, the market offers a wide selection of gardening equipment. One of these helpers is a lawn mower, in other words, a trimmer . For efficient and long-term operation of such equipment, it is necessary to refuel it with high-quality fuel or properly prepared fuel mixtures.

HP Ultra Synthetics burn almost completely. it is important

Husqvarna oil for air filters

The assortment is represented by one product, Air filter oil. It is a pale yellow liquid with a characteristic odor. Supplied in opaque white canisters with a capacity of 1 liter. The product guarantees effective capture of particles suspended in the air and prevents them from entering the combustion chamber.

Fuel mixture proportions

If the mixture is diluted correctly, for example, following the instructions below, then the equipment will serve you for many years without serious technical breakdowns. In this case, fuel consumption will be low and the work result will be high. The process of preparing fuel should always be the same and constant. It is better to always use the same ingredients, without changing the brand specified by the manufacturer.

You shouldn’t add a lot of oil, as this can damage the engine’s performance, but you shouldn’t skimp on it either. To maintain the correct proportions, always use the same measuring container so as not to make mistakes with the quantity. To measure the oil, you can use medical syringes, but some manufacturers also provide measuring containers with marks along with the oil.

The most correct ratio of oil and gasoline is considered to be 1 to 50, where 50 is the amount of gasoline and the amount of oil is 1. For a better understanding, let us explain that 1 liter is equal to 1000 ml. This means that to get a proportion of 1 to 50, we divide 1000 ml by 50, we get 20 ml. As a result, only 20 milliliters of oil need to be added to 1 liter of gasoline. To dilute 5 liters of gasoline you will need 100 ml of oil.

In addition to maintaining the correct proportions, it is also necessary to observe the technology for mixing the ingredients. Under no circumstances should you simply add oil to the gas tank. It is better to follow the following step-by-step instructions.

  • To dilute the mixture, you need to prepare in advance a container in which you will mix gasoline and oil. This can be a clean metal or plastic canister with a volume of 3, 5 or 10 liters to make it easier to calculate the amount of oil. Do not use drinking water bottles for this purpose - they are made of thin plastic that can be dissolved by gasoline. To measure oil, use a special measuring container. But if there is no such thing, then, as already noted, medical syringes with a large dosage are suitable.
  • Pour gasoline into the canister, without adding a couple of centimeters to the full volume. To avoid spilling gasoline, take a watering can or insert a funnel into the neck of the canister. Then take the required amount of oil into a syringe or measuring device and pour it into a container with gasoline. It is not recommended to do the opposite - pour gasoline into oil.
  • Close the cap tightly with the bottle and stir the resulting mixture. If some of the fuel spills out while preparing the mixture or stirring it, you must immediately wipe the canister with a dry cloth.
  • Be sure to follow fire safety precautions. Dilute the mixture away from fire and under no circumstances leave residual fuel and used materials within the reach of children.

And one more important point: it is better to prepare exactly the amount of mixture that fits in the fuel tank of your brush cutter. It is not advisable to leave any remaining mixture.

Husqvarna lawn mower oil

Many of you have gas-powered tools in your household; for example, in a private home you can’t do without a chainsaw.
You understand that preparing firewood for the winter comes in handy during construction and repairs, and in general, it is a very necessary tool. If a country house also has a decent-sized plot, then to combat the grass you simply need a trimmer or lawn mower, which also runs on gasoline. Of course, you can buy them electric, but not everyone likes to pull a 30-meter extension cord to mow an area overgrown with knee-deep grass. Therefore, most people prefer to work with gasoline tools. As you know, special oil for two-stroke engines must be added to gasoline. That’s what we’ll talk about, because this is a very important aspect; if you don’t add oil and add it in the wrong proportions, then your engine will “crack” very quickly and your path will be to a service center. To avoid all these troubles, add only high-quality oil and in the correct proportions.

STIHL is a great solution

The most popular products for chainsaws, brush cutters and trimmers are the products of the well-known company STIHL. It is sold in 2 packages - 1 liter and 100 ml. For those who work a lot, a liter bottle is suitable, but a small bottle will be enough for “one-time use”. A container of 1 liter costs 250 rubles, and a container of 10 ml costs 60 rubles. If you take a large one, the savings are obvious.

Oil is added to gasoline in a ratio of 1 to 50, that is, for example, add 100 ml to 5 liters of gasoline. As you can see, a small bottle is great for getting 5 liters of gasoline mixture to refill your chainsaw or trimmer. The large bottle has special marks on the side by which you can determine how much oil has been poured out of the bottle. If you bought a large 1 liter bottle, then buy a 20 ml syringe at the pharmacy. Very convenient - 1 syringe of oil per 1 liter of gasoline.

Experts advise using branded oil for your equipment; it is ideal because it was developed and tested specifically on Shtil instruments. I note that calm has its own brands, such as Viking (popular models of gasoline trimmers). For them, also use Shtilev oil and there will be no problems at all.

If you have added more gasoline mixture than you can use, it is best to store the remainder in a metal canister or glass container. Never store the mixture in a plastic bottle. Of course, if you use up the leftovers after a couple of days, you can pour the remaining mixture into a plastic one and a half containers, but if the mixture will be stored for a long time, then either a canister or glass container. The thing is that the gas mixture corrodes the plastic bottle, microscopic deposits of plastic appear in the mixture and this is very bad for the engine. Keep this in mind if you want your tool to work for a long time and without problems.

What kind of gasoline can be used in the trimmer?

Before determining what kind of gasoline can be poured into a trimmer, it is necessary to define some of the concepts used.

  • Trimmers can be with four-stroke or two-stroke engines. Four-stroke trimmers are the most powerful and complex in design; the parts of its engine are lubricated by an oil pump. The engine runs on pure gasoline. For two-stroke units - simpler ones - it is necessary to prepare a fuel mixture consisting of gasoline and oil. It is due to the amount of oil that is in the fuel that the rubbing parts in the cylinder of this engine are lubricated.
  • To prepare the mixture, you need gasoline of a certain grade AI-95 or AI-92. The brand of gasoline depends on its ignition speed - octane number. The lower this indicator, the faster gasoline burns and the greater its consumption.

Many models of lawn mowers have two-stroke engines that run primarily on AI-92 gasoline. The fuel for them must be mixed independently. It is better to pour gasoline into the lawn mower of the brand specified for it by the manufacturer, otherwise the trimmer will fail faster. For example, with AI-95 gasoline, the engine will quickly overheat, and if you choose AI-80, the fuel mixture will be of very poor quality, so the engine will operate unstable and with low power.

In addition to choosing the brand of gasoline, when preparing a fuel mixture for a brush cutter, you need to use a special oil designed specifically for two-stroke engines. Semi-synthetic and synthetic oils are well suited for lawn mowers. Semi-synthetic oils are in the middle price range, suitable for such equipment from any manufacturer, and lubricate the necessary engine elements well. Synthetic oils are more expensive, but using them will make the engine run longer. In any case, when purchasing equipment, you should carefully read the instructions, since sometimes the manufacturer gives recommendations on the use of specific brands of oil.

If you purchase oil , it should be marked .2T. For the long service life of your equipment and its good condition, you should never use oils of unknown origin.

What kind of oil to pour into gasoline for a chainsaw?

To make the fuel mixture, a special oil for two-stroke engines is used. There are now a great number of them. What kind of oil to pour into an electric saw. Let's consider what kind of oil to pour into the electric saw. what oil should be poured into a chain saw and oil into any » what oil should be poured. What kind of oil and gasoline do you use in your chainsaw? It doesn’t matter what kind of oil to pour into a chain saw, a chainsaw or an electric saw. But the manufacturers themselves, especially the harsh ones, such as Stihl or Husqvarna, always write what oil to mix with gasoline for their chainsaws. They are produced under the same brand, which is why, for example, Stihl oil is suitable for Stihl saws, and Husqvarna for Husqvarna.

At the same time, representatives of the companies claim that they do not know how a chainsaw will work with other oils, but they can definitely guarantee the proper operation of their own equipment when the fuel mixture for it is prepared on the basis of the product that they indicate in the instruction manual. By the way, if a malfunction occurs in the piston group during the warranty period, you may be denied free repairs if it turns out that you added something other than what the manufacturer indicates.

If the annotation does not indicate a specific brand, then gasoline can be combined with any two-stroke oil that is available in stores. With all this, I still recommend taking products from famous manufacturers, the same Stihl or Husqvarna, also, for example, Echo, Hitachi, Makita. What oil for you can choose what kind of oil you need to pour into the chainsaw. Naturally, you can safely take the product not only from those manufacturers who produce gasoline-powered vehicles, but also from those who directly specialize in the production of fuels and lubricants, for example, Ravenol.

Mineral or synthetic oil - which is better to add to gasoline?

Two-stroke oils can be mineral or synthetic. electric saw oil discussion of the topic of what oil should be poured into the chain saw. As in the case of a car, synthetics always cost more than mineral water. Its most important advantage is that when used inside the chainsaw cylinder, no carbon deposits are created. Who knows what kind of oil I have calm and husqvarna during and it’s best to pour into the chain. Should Husqvarna oil be poured into a chainsaw or should it be filled with 92 gasoline. This extends its service life. Thus, if you want the saw to last as long as possible, fill it with synthetics.

However, it should be noted that if you have already used mineral water for a long time (more than 100 operating hours), then you cannot use synthetics. This is due to the fact that synthetic oil, having cleaning properties, will wash away the soot layer that has accumulated on them from the cylinder walls, and its falling off pieces can lead to damage. Therefore, if you have been using mineral water for a long time, then use it.

The ratio of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw

To find out how much oil to pour into gasoline for a chainsaw (as well as for any other two-stroke equipment: trimmer, motor drill, etc.), you need to look at the correct proportion in the instructions for the saw or on the packaging. Typically, when using the “native” version, the proportion is 1:50. Read the review of what kind of oil can be poured into an electric saw. If another type is used, it is recommended to combine it in a ratio of 1:40. In other words, for example, with a proportion of 1:50, divide 1 liter by 50 and get 0.02 liters - this is the amount that needs to be added to 1 liter of gasoline. In other words, pour 20 ml per 1 liter of gasoline.

When using a syringe or a package with a dispenser, you must have a container into which you can accurately measure the required amount of gasoline.

So, after adding the required amount of oil to gasoline, we simply shake the container in which they are mixed, and that’s it - the fuel mixture is ready.

You should not stock up on the consistency for future use, because it has a limited shelf life. Typically, the shelf life after mixing should not exceed 1 month, but some service centers generally advise storing the finished fuel mixture for no more than 3 days.

What oil to use to lubricate a chainsaw chain

Now let's move on to lubrication of the chain. To lubricate the chain, you need to use special adhesive lubricants specifically created for this purpose. You can, of course, fill in other types of oils, for example, transmission or motor oils, but they will not lubricate the tire and chain as well as special adhesive oil for chain lubrication does.

This is due to the fact that the special lubricant contains adhesive substances that force it to “stick” to the chain. Thanks to this, it does not fly out as much when the chain rotates as other types do. Therefore, the tire and chain do not wear out as much and last longer.

Oil to lubricate the chain should be poured into a special tank up to the very neck. It is recommended to top up in conjunction with filling the saw with fuel mixture, because, usually, when a full tank of fuel mixture is used up, there is still some amount of chain lubricant remaining. But if you don’t top it up, it will be used up before the fuel runs out.

Features of refueling brush cutters

When the mixture is prepared and ready for use, it must be carefully poured into the fuel tank. Since gasoline is a toxic liquid, safety precautions must be observed when working with it. Work must be carried out in calm weather and away from strangers. And also to pour fuel into the tank you need to use a watering can or funnel with which you previously diluted the mixture. Otherwise, the mixture may spill, go unnoticed, and ignite when the engine heats up.

The fuel bank itself must be cleaned of external contaminants and only then unscrew its cap to fill with prepared fuel. Once the fuel has been filled, the tank should not be left open, as insects or soil may get into it, causing the fuel filter to become clogged. You need to fill the tank with fuel to the specified mark or less, and then top it up during operation.

As noted above, you should not prepare the mixture more than is necessary for work; it is better to prepare less and, if necessary, repeat the process of mixing gasoline with oil again. If there is still unused fuel left, it must be used within 2 weeks.

During storage, the container must be tightly closed with a lid. Fuel should be stored in a cool room, in a place where the sun's rays do not penetrate. It is worth remembering that when storing the mixture for a long time, the oil dilutes and loses its properties.

Whatever brand your equipment is, it requires careful handling and high-quality fuel. If you follow all the recommendations and use fuel sparingly, your lawn mower will serve you for more than one season, and the land will always be in perfect order, without weeds and dense thickets of grass.

Husqvarna HP

This is a Swedish manufacturer, which includes several well-known brands, including the Partner company (Partner), known for its garden equipment for semi-professional and professional use. Husqvarna produces not only equipment, but also high-quality lubricants used on almost all brands of power tools.

The photo below shows Husqvarna HP 2-stroke oil, which contains special additives that can compensate for poor fuel quality, which is not uncommon in our country. After all, the octane number of gasoline purchased at a gas station does not always correspond to the declared one.

This lubricant is green in color and contains a semi-synthetic base. It can be packaged in both 10-liter and liter containers. The mixture is diluted in a standard proportion of 1:50 (20 g per 1 liter of gasoline). But when the engine has not yet been broken in, or work is to be done in the cold, the proportion can be increased to 1:40.

Main manufacturers

Leading manufacturers of chainsaws produce consumables and lubricants for them, including those specifically for chains and tires. All other things being equal, preference should be given to the products of the manufacturer of the chainsaw itself. But the quality of the best brands is such that using lubricants from another manufacturer will not have a negative impact on performance.

The most famous brands are the German company STIHL, the Swedish Husqvarna and the Japanese Makita. They provide a fairly wide selection of adhesive oils, including the following:

  • mineral Stihl ForestPlus is designed to work at temperatures down to -15 ℃. Standard packaging – 1 and 5 l. For long-term work, it has recently been produced in 20-liter containers;
  • The highly environmentally friendly Stihl BioPlus is produced on a plant basis. Once in the soil, it quickly decomposes without polluting it. The operating temperature is also up to -15℃. Packaging – 1 and 3 l;
  • For low temperatures, semi-synthetic Stihl SynthPlus is suitable, operating down to -25 °.
  • Eco-friendly, biodegradable Bio and Bio Advanced. Presented as a universal all-season oil. Bio Advanced option - improved oxidation resistance and up to 10% better lubricating properties;
  • Makita. Biotop oil;
  • Champion adhesive oil.

Among the Russian brands specifically for chains there is “ZUBR ZMPM-M”. There are also other, less well-known manufacturers whose lubricating oil is noticeably lower in price.

Choosing chain oil

After each refueling of the chainsaw with the fuel mixture, do not forget to check the amount of oil in the oil tank. In a chainsaw, an oil pump delivers lubricant to the bar along which the saw chain slides. Normally, both tanks - fuel and oil - should be refilled at the same time. Oil for lubricating the chain must be poured into the appropriate tank up to the neck. Otherwise, it may run out before the fuel, which will lead to overheating of the chain and bar.

Chainsaw chain oil must be formulated specifically for this purpose. The use of other lubricants is ineffective and reduces the service life of not only the saw, but also the unit tire. This is explained by the fact that chain oil contains adhesive additives, thanks to which the lubricant literally “sticks” to the chain. This property of the oil reduces its consumption, as a result of which the lubrication of the chainsaw bar and saw chain improves, and their service life increases.

Another important parameter of chain lubrication is its thickness. If you are going to use a lubricant that is not intended for chainsaws, you may notice that oil leaks while the unit is running or after it stops. This fact indicates that the lubricant is too liquid. In addition, the liquid lubricant will quickly scatter in all directions and, accordingly, quickly run out.

When operating a chainsaw in winter, it is necessary to use oil designed for low temperatures to lubricate the chain, otherwise the oil pump will fail. Therefore, the lubricant remaining in the tank must be replaced with low-temperature lubricant.

Leading manufacturers of gasoline-powered tools, such as STIHL, Husqvarna , Makita, Bosch and chainsaw component manufacturer Oregon, recommend the use of special highly adhesive oils, including biodegradable ones. But oils from well-known brands have the only drawback - they cost 1 liter and more. In addition, the lubricant in the reservoir can thicken over time and clog the channels. For this reason, it has to be drained, and this already increases consumption. But despite this, we have to admit the fact that only the use of special lubricants can extend the life of the chainsaw.

Types of engine oil

Among the wide variety of lubricants, three large groups can be distinguished, which differ in both composition and characteristics:

  • Mineral.
  • Semi-synthetic.
  • Synthetic.
  • Mineral oils

One of the cheapest and most common. They are obtained during the refining of petroleum products. Many saws are kept in mineral oil for quite a long time. Its main advantage is price and availability. True, you can’t buy a good pure substance for pennies either. Mineral water can smoke the inside of the engine over time. However, if the owner is good with his hands, he can clean out all the “insides” himself. According to experienced “pilot operators”, with rare and not too intensive use of the unit, the mineral component is quite enough for normal operation.

  • Synthetic oil

For two-strokes, it is made from artificially created components.
Industrial synthesis gives indicators unattainable with mineral oils. Synthetics are not afraid of cold, heat, or temperature changes. In addition, it forms much less soot. Recommended for use in professional equipment. in a logging site, where tools work for 8-10 hours almost without a break, the highest quality is the only way to maintain productivity. Semi-synthetics are a compromise solution for those who cannot afford pure synthetics, but the class of the tool does not allow them to add mineral water to gasoline. It is made on the basis of petroleum products, but contains special additives that improve the performance of the substance.

How to determine the ratio of gasoline and oil

The fuel mixture used in 2-stroke engines is prepared from a certain amount of oil and gasoline. The latter must have an octane number of at least 90 and be unleaded. AI-92 fuel is best suited for these purposes.

Gasoline with an octane rating of 95 is not recommended because it contains many different additives that are harmful to two-stroke engines.

To prepare the mixture, you must use only motor oil from reputable manufacturers. The lubricant must be intended for high-speed engines with an air cooling system. This component, intended for low-speed engines (moped, motorcycle, snowmobile), is prohibited.

When preparing the mixture, you must strictly observe the proportion of gasoline and oil. As a rule, this is 1:50, that is, you need to take 100 ml of oil and dilute it in 5 liters of gasoline. This rule changes slightly if the engine or piston system is new and requires break-in. In this case, the oil-gasoline ratio can be 1:40. For break-in, you will need 2-3 full refuelings of the unit with a fuel mixture with this ratio. If you dilute the fuel mixture in a ratio of 1:30, carbon deposits will inevitably form on the piston and inside the cylinder, which, as already mentioned, leads to breakdown of the entire crank mechanism.

Below is a table that helps you quickly determine the gasoline- oil if you need to prepare a large amount of the fuel mixture.

Husqvarna oil for two-stroke engines

Husqvarna chainsaws are equipped only with two-stroke engines. For all engine models, the manufacturer currently offers one universal brand - Husqvarna HP - which is often referred to by sellers as Husqvarna 2t oil. It is a brown liquid with an organic solvent odor. Viscosity at 40 °C is 57.5 mm2/s. Very slightly soluble in water. According to its chemical composition, it is classified as semi-synthetic. The company's engineers emphasize the focus of their product on operating conditions in Russia and claim that they contain additives that prevent the growth of deposits when using low-quality gasoline.

Supplied in black 1 liter canisters with labels on two opposite sides of the container. Note that on the back of the label, in addition to the classic mandatory information, there is a recipe for preparing the fuel mixture for the Husqvarna chainsaw (and other saws). The canister is equipped with a translucent strip with marks for easy assessment of the remaining volume of liquid. Now, unfortunately, the purchase package does not include a dispenser, but this is not critical.

To prepare the fuel mixture for the Husqvarna chainsaw, you must strictly observe the ratio of oil and gasoline.

It is well known that if you reduce the proportion of the first component, then increased friction occurs in the chainsaw engine, which contributes to accelerated wear. If you add more oil than normal, then carbon deposits will appear on the spark plug, which complicates starting the chainsaw and can lead to loss of spark, and carbon deposits on the piston can even lead to burnout due to a decrease in cooling intensity.

The proportion of oil and gasoline for a Husqvarna chainsaw is designated as 1:40. This means that 1 liter of fuel requires 25 ml of lubricant.

Before purchasing, make sure that you are purchasing a canister marked 2T and not lubricant for lawn mowers with four-stroke (4T) power units. Two-stroke oil differs significantly in characteristics and scope of application from four-stroke oil. To reduce the likelihood of errors, 2t and 4t products are packaged in canisters of different shapes.

Rules for preparing the fuel mixture

Gasoline and oil must be diluted in containers that are resistant to petroleum products (plastic or metal cans). It is not recommended to use plastic water, juice or milk bottles for these purposes, since food-grade plastic decomposes when exposed to gasoline. As a result of this process, the fuel mixture will change its properties, and it is difficult to predict what effect it will have on the engine.

The combustible mixture for a chainsaw is easy to prepare.

  • Take the required amount of lubricant and pour it into the prepared container. You should not pour all the prepared gasoline into the container with oil; half the required amount will be enough.
  • Rock the container slightly until the lubricant is completely dissolved in the gasoline.
  • Now you can fill in the remaining gasoline, mixing it well with the mixture in the container. This completes the preparation of the fuel mixture for the chainsaw.

Before each refueling of the chainsaw, the combustible mixture must be shaken. Also, do not forget to tighten the cap of the fuel tank well, otherwise this will lead to a lean mixture and engine failure.

It is better to use the prepared fuel mixture immediately. Therefore, it needs to be prepared in such quantity that it is enough for the expected amount of work. If the mixture remains, then it cannot be stored for more than 1-1.5 months. During this time, it will lose a significant part of its lubricating properties.

All about choosing chainsaw oil

The service life of any chainsaw, without a doubt, depends on the quality of its maintenance and operation. The most important requirement for this unit is timely lubrication of all its moving parts. Chainsaw oil is available in different types, namely: motor and chain. The motor part is poured into the internal combustion engine, and the chain part is intended for the saw chain. Let's figure out how to choose the right oil for a chainsaw.

STIHL HP

The lubricant was specially developed for engines of STIHL equipment. It has a mineral base, has high lubricating and cleaning abilities and can be at an ambient temperature of at least 10°C.

The bottle has a special dispenser that allows you to mix the fuel mixture without using additional measuring containers.

The lubricant is red in color and can be stored for no more than 4 years in a closed container. The latter can have different capacities, both large and small (for one-time refilling). For example, there is a 20-gram container on sale, the contents of which are added to 1 liter of gasoline. This is a very convenient option for owners of chainsaws who use them occasionally. Important: the mixture of gasoline with this oil cannot be stored for more than 1 month, since during this time it will already lose its lubricating properties.

Which trimmer oil to choose?

When using a device such as a gasoline trimmer, its maintenance is especially difficult. When it's time to change the oil, many people don't know what kind of oil to put in their trimmer .

In most of these types of devices, oil is poured along with gasoline. Therefore, the owner must know the ratio of gasoline and oil when using a trimmer. In most cases, take 20 g of oil per liter of fuel. Moreover, the higher the quality of the fuel, the lower its consumption.

There are also 4-stroke engine models for trimmers. In these types of trimmer oils are poured into a separate container, which does not cause any particular difficulties. One of the main advantages of these devices is their low noise level, which allows you to work without headphones. Oils for trimmers with a four-stroke engine are marked 4T, which you must pay attention to.

Husqvarna lubricant for 2-stroke engines

Not everyone knows that Husqvarna oil was created specifically for pouring into chainsaws of the same brand. Two-stroke engines were installed in the equipment, which also required treatment with lubricants. There are a lot of lubricants from this brand, so it’s worth having at least a general idea of which Husqvarna oil is suitable for a two-stroke engine.

The next review will provide information about the products of this company, as well as describe the specific characteristics of the offered lubricants.

General description of the lubricant composition

Husqvarna two-stroke engine oil is a mineral product. It contains components that prevent excessive formation of smoke and fumes, and also improve the quality of lubrication. The ash content is reduced, which also reduces the degree of soot formation in the engine.

The product is sold in containers of 1 and 0.1 liters. For a liter of product, you will need to pay 600 rubles and more. All Husqvarna oils are divided into two groups:

  • chain lubricant;
  • composition for the preparation of fuel mixtures.

Taking this division into account, you should choose the right product. It is not recommended to replace one type of lubricant with another, since the products have different capabilities and properties.

Features of Husqvarna lubricant for preparing the fuel mixture

To prepare a special composition and then pour it into the chainsaw engine, special oil is used. The product is available in 1 liter containers. Compared to oils for four-stroke engines, they are packaged in 600 ml containers. Due to the addition of special components to the composition, even when mixing the product with low-quality fuel, the lubricant provides complete protection to the engine. In turn, this allows you to extend the life of the tool.

To increase the degree of protection of the lubricant from fraudsters, a special container is used. The bottle is pleasant to the touch and has a special shape. At the bottom there is a raised marking and the production date. Additionally, the matte black bottle has a transparent indicator through which you can determine how much product is left. When preparing the working staff, it is necessary to carefully observe the proportions. Otherwise, serious damage may be caused to the equipment.

What trimmer oils should I use?

Today there are few people left who use a regular scythe in their garden. This “old-fashioned” method practically never occurs. And many already have no idea how to handle it, sharpen it and rivet it. With the development of technology, devices called trimmers appeared.

There are two main types of such devices. These are gasoline and electric. From the name it is clear that their main difference is the power source. Each type has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of gasoline ones is the absence of a power cord, which does not limit the owner’s movement around the site during work. The electric one needs a 220 V network for power. There is no way to do this without an extension cord, which will constantly get in the way and get under your feet.

A modern fuel-powered trimmer, thanks to the presence of various replaceable heads, has transformed from an ordinary scythe into a small-scale mechanization tool with many functions. By installing the appropriate attachment, it will not be difficult for the owner to form a crown for shrubs on his personal plot. In snowy winters it can be used as a snow blower. Replacing the trimmer working heads itself will not take much time and can be done either with or without a tool.

Advantages and disadvantages of gasoline trimmers

Thus, to summarize the above, it is necessary to note the main advantages and disadvantages of gasoline trimmers. The advantages include :

  • greater weight;
  • The amount of noise produced during operation is greater than that of electric ones. Despite this, the number of gasoline trimmers in summer cottages is only increasing.

What happens if you pour waste into a chainsaw?

Once a chainsaw owner has been using it for a while, he may want to make some modifications to the tool. And it’s good if his desires are limited to purchasing various attachments that expand the functionality of the chainsaw. But some go further - they begin to experiment with the gasoline and oil that their saw runs on.

If we already talked about gasoline earlier (most modern saws require it with a high octane number - no lower than 92-95), then it’s worth special mention about oil. Many car enthusiasts accumulate a significant amount of used engine oil during the operation of their car. And that’s why some people want to use this material to refuel a chainsaw.

If you do this, then engine failure is guaranteed. The reason for this will primarily be the low lubricity of the reused oil. It will burn with a lot of black soot. The metal particles contained in the oil will first clog the fuel filter (these are the larger particles), and then the cylinder sealing rings will fail. Metal suspension in oil will damage both the surface of the cylinders themselves and the bearings.

Some “innovators” are trying to use oil to lubricate the chain itself and the block on which it is located. This will also not lead to anything good. What exactly will happen can be seen in the attached video.

Repair and adjustment of the chainsaw chain lubrication system

There is a basic method for checking the oil supply without removing the bar: to do this, simply hold the chain running at full speed over a clean surface. Based on the density of the strip formed, it will be possible to judge the oil supply.

A common problem is low oil supply, to eliminate it you need to:

  • check all channels through which oil flows to the tire, clean them by blowing with compressed air;
  • assess the condition of the pump worm drive, check for mechanical damage. Replace all worn and broken elements with new ones;
  • check the oil pump. Sometimes it is enough to change the plunger; it is this that can fail prematurely due to excessive dirt. But if there are any cracks or more serious damage, then in this case you will have to buy a new pump.

If there is significant oil leakage, it is necessary to check the tightness of the pipes and fittings of the oil pump and replace the sealing elements.

Which Husqvarna oil should I choose for my chainsaw?

New engine or transmission lubricants

Not a very reasonable choice in economic terms. Suitable for cases where the saw is rarely used, and there is no point in buying a canister of special lubricant separately.

These oils contain a huge amount of unnecessary and useless additives for saw operation, which will only pollute the processed lumber and the environment.

Which oil is better to use for a chain - video

Here you also need to take into account viscosity indicators. The rate of oil supply to the chainsaw chain can be greatly reduced as the temperature increases the viscosity.

Oil for chainsaws, lawn mowers: choose a lubricant for the gearbox, chain, and compressor of the lawn mower (trimmer)

Greases may lose their fluidity in winter conditions and may not effectively protect the chain and tire running surfaces from wear.

In the case of motor oils, when working in winter, it is recommended to use low-viscosity options. In general, internal combustion engine lubricants can be used in saws.

Chainsaw oil

A chainsaw is a rather complex device that requires constant care and maintenance. The owner of the tool can perform some of this work independently; if complex malfunctions occur, we recommend contacting experienced mechanics.

Chainsaw oil

The performance of a chain saw and electric saw depends on many circumstances. The power of the motor, the experience of the operator, the quality of the saw set and fuels and lubricants should be taken into account. In addition, modern chainsaws are equipped with automatic chain lubrication, without which it is now difficult to imagine even the cheapest tool.

Main components of a chainsaw

We will tell you in our material what the automatic chain lubrication system is, how it functions and what its serviceability depends on. We will pay special attention to the problem of choosing lubricating oil and introduce you to the recommendations of leading manufacturers in this matter.

Requirements

High-quality oil that can be poured into a gasoline trimmer must meet a number of requirements and standards to ensure reliable operation of the device and its performance. The oil should:

  • provide increased wear resistance for various elements (in particular, the gearbox is especially susceptible to this);
  • ensure the lowest possible formation of smoke and exhaust gases;
  • do not allow premature ignition;
  • mix well with gasoline when exposed to low temperatures;
  • have good viscosity and fluidity in different temperature ranges;
  • be as possible in terms of environmental impact.

As already mentioned, the oil formulation for a two-stroke engine will be different from that for a four-stroke engine. It has higher power, which is why its fuel is obtained by mixing a certain amount of gasoline and oil. For each lawn mower the ratio will be different. You can find out its meaning in the instructions for the device. These proportions must be observed with maximum accuracy. When adding additives, it is necessary to take into account the type of motor.

If mineral oils are used, then mixing should occur somewhere in the ratio of 1: 25, 30 or 35, depending on the type. If we are talking about a synthetic analogue, then the proportion will be 1: 50 or 80. That is, a certain amount of oil is dissolved in the volume of gasoline.

Automatic chain lubrication system

Anyone who has studied physics understands that when the chain moves along the tire, friction occurs, which, in turn, leads to an increase in temperature in the working area and premature wear of parts. To mitigate this process, it is necessary to constantly lubricate the working area. Actually, a chain lubrication system was developed for this purpose.

Saw chain lubrication system

The operator pours oil into the tank, which flows through the oil pump to the saw set. The system is mounted in such a way that when the load increases, oil is released in large volumes; at idle speed, the system stops operating.

The design of the automatic lubrication system depends on the manufacturer and model of the chainsaw and may have some design differences. However, the basic principles of operation, components and connection system remain unchanged.

Automatic chain lubrication system:

  • Oil tank. The refill tank, depending on the model, can have different capacities and be located in different places. Most often, the manufacturer places the container in the engine crankcase;
  • Filter. Installed directly in the tank;
  • Oil line. Hose, small diameter, made of temperature and oil resistant materials;

Chainsaw tire (sprocket lubrication)

  • Oil pump. The main node of the system. Meters the supply of oil to the chain;
  • Worm-gear. Serves to transfer force from the chainsaw engine to the oil pump;
  • Tire. In this case, this part serves a dual purpose. The fact is that the saw bar has channels and grooves for the passage of lubricants;

Principle of operation

When the engine starts and its speed increases, the torque is transmitted to the oil pump shaft. The more you press on the accelerator, the greater the pressure in the oil line - the larger doses of oil flow through the oil line towards the saw set.

Automatic chain lubrication system

The oil line tube ends at the point of contact between the engine crankcase and the saw bar. As we already mentioned, it has grooves and an oil channel through which lubricant is supplied to the chain. The saw chain itself also has grooves that disperse oil throughout the bar.

Important: the lubrication system operates regardless of the degree of chain tension, which is controlled by the operator.

Some new chainsaw models are equipped with oil supply regulators. This is a convenient function that allows you to increase or decrease lubricant consumption, depending on the ambient temperature and work intensity.

Main symptoms of a malfunction

How to find out in which mode your chainsaw operates, whether it is working properly, or whether problems have arisen. In the worst case, the engine simply won’t start, or it will start and immediately stall.

Signs indicating that your chainsaw needs repair:

  • When working, the smell of burnt wood is felt, the shavings have changed color to dark brown;
  • There is a rapid dulling of the chain links and the tire itself;
  • The performance of the chainsaw has decreased;
  • The oil level in the tank remains constant;

Since we have found out that our chainsaw has a malfunction, it’s time to move on to finding the breakdown. Let us immediately note that in some cases, repairs at home are impossible.

Lubrication system breakdowns that you can fix yourself:

  • The oil line has broken.
    The most difficult thing is to diagnose this breakdown. But if you still manage to detect a break or an area of oil leakage, you can simply replace the worn part; Chainsaw oil line Oil pump
  • Clogged filter or oil line. There are no special problems here either; clean all parts thoroughly and replace them if necessary. We recommend cleaning the oil line with compressed air;
  • Worn thread on the oil pump shaft. In this case, only replacing the part will help;
  • Oil pump malfunction. The most complex failure. It can be solved by repairing the unit or replacing it completely.

Tips for choosing

Now let's try to understand how to choose high-quality oil for a trimmer running on gasoline. The main feature that you need to pay attention to will be the alkalinity number. This moment eliminates the oxidation of parts that experience friction and slows down their deformation as much as possible. The more this compound is used, the faster it loses alkalinity and becomes more oxidized. The optimal acidity indicator (PH) is a value of at least 8-9 units.

The second important factor, which also has a serious impact on the operation of a gasoline trimmer, is the viscosity of the oil. This characteristic determines the ability to use the device at different temperatures. Summer brands of oils begin to thicken even with a minimal drop in temperature.

But given that such trimmers are usually used in autumn and spring, it would be best to use oil with summer markings.

The third point, the importance of which should not be underestimated, is the flash point. This indicator should not be less than 225 degrees. Otherwise, the composition will burn out very quickly and the load on the piston group will begin to increase, which will cause its accelerated wear. In addition, oil for a 4-stroke engine is not suitable for a 2-stroke engine. Namely, the latter type of motor is used in the vast majority of gas mowers.

If we talk about manufacturers, we can create a small rating that will allow you to navigate the compositions offered by various manufacturers. For example, STIHL offers high-quality synthetic and mineral oils, which have already proven themselves to be an excellent solution at any time of the year.

Shell Helix Ultra oil is considered very good. Experts note its high characteristics and excellent alkalinity and viscosity. In addition, products from brands such as Oleo-Mac, Motul, Hammerflex, and Echo are considered worthy. If we talk about products of domestic brands, then you should pay attention to Lukoil oil. Its price is several times lower than its foreign analogues, but at the same time it has high quality and good technical characteristics.

In general, the ideal solution would be synthetic or semi-synthetic oil labeled TV or TA.

Varieties

The oil that is poured into the engine may differ in the production method. According to this criterion, it happens:

  • mineral - this type is obtained by processing petroleum products;
  • synthetic - it is obtained by processing or synthesizing gas;
  • semi-synthetic - this type has more advanced characteristics due to the introduction of synthetic-based components into it.

Oil for lawn mowers refers to compositions intended for use in air-cooled engines that have a combustion chamber volume of 50-200 cubic centimeters. In addition, any two-stroke oil may differ from its analogues in additives that give it certain additional characteristics. They come in the following types.

  • Anti-wear. The main task of the oil will be to reduce wear of parts during operation of the device.
  • Antioxidant. They prevent oxidation from occurring and make it possible to maintain the performance characteristics of the oil for a long time.
  • Anti-corrosion. Their task is to prevent corrosion from forming on engine parts.
  • Friction modifiers. These additives can significantly reduce the coefficient of friction.

Two-stroke oil from different manufacturers may differ in the combination of additives used, which means their properties will differ.

Recently, when purchasing oil for diluting with gasoline, users are very often faced with the fact that special letter abbreviations are applied to the canisters. These designations are made within the framework of the API classification. Let's consider what types of oils exist in accordance with it.

  • TA is used for air-cooled lawn mowers with an engine capacity of no more than 50 cubic centimeters. It can be used not only for mowers, but also for mopeds, lawn mowers and other types of equipment. For a gasoline trimmer, this is the optimal solution.
  • TB is used to refuel a chainsaw, scooter, moped or motorcycle whose engine capacity does not exceed 200 cubic centimeters. Can also be used for refilling petrol trimmers.

But in addition to this classification, other letter designations of the FA-FD type are often found. It should be said that API is an American standard that is used in Europe. But there is a discrepancy between European smoke emission standards and American ones. For this reason, additional letter designations should be taken into account.

  • FA can be used in states where the law requires minimum exhaust emissions into the atmosphere. When using oil with this marking, subtle smoke may be emitted.
  • FB - can be used in countries where restrictions on smoke and gas emissions are much stricter. In this case, virtually no smoke will be released.
  • FC - smoke appears here with a transparent color that the human eye cannot notice.
  • FD is a special category of oils for 2-stroke engines; they do not create smoke at all. They have increased chemical indicators. Typically, this oil is used for mixing with gasoline and subsequent refueling of boats and yachts.

In addition, oils come in two more categories:

In the first case, this will mean that it is necessary to carry out independent mixing, which does not require shaking, and in the second case, this will also need to be done.

Purpose

Motor oil is a special mixture consisting of a solvent and additives that reduce friction. They form a certain viscosity and do not allow the composition to thicken when the temperature drops. Typically, oils are specially colored in different colors: green, red or blue. This prevents them from being confused.

Keep in mind that they may differ in composition, so oil for gasoline trimmers will be labeled “for garden equipment.” In addition, it may also differ in marking: “2T” or “4T”. The first is two-stroke oil , which is poured into the corresponding engine. And the second is intended for pouring into the crankcase.

In addition, you should know that under no circumstances should you mix mineral and synthetic oils due to the fact that they have different bases.

How to use?

Information on the proportions of oil use was given above. Let us say right away that you should not deviate from the indicated values and dilute gasoline by eye. In the best case, you just need to change the oil, and in the worst case, engine breakdown cannot be avoided.

It is also important to be able to prepare the mixture correctly. It cannot be poured into the gas tank It is better to pour the oil into a special container that already contains gasoline. A plastic mineral water bottle is perfect for this. It is very important here that it is clean, which is why beer or milk bottles will not work. And it is better that it be liter or two-liter, since it will be difficult for many to calculate how much to pour into a 1.5-liter or 1.25-liter bottle. You will also need to have a syringe on hand, which will serve as a dosimeter. It is best to take a regular medical one with 10 or more cubic meters.

Now we will explain step by step how to make good oil for a gasoline trimmer.

  • First, you should find out exactly what type of oil is required for a particular model of scythe, and also find out the exact ratio of gasoline and oil to create the mixture.
  • Then you need to fill the container. The container should not be filled completely with gasoline, because there should still be room for oil;
  • Now we fill the syringe with the required amount of 2-stroke oil and pour it into a bottle of gasoline. You cannot do the opposite, otherwise all the ingredients will need to be replaced, and the mixture will need to be made again.
  • Close the bottle with a lid and stir. It is important not to forget that you need to stir the mixture if there are words Premix on the bottle of oil. If it says Selfmix, then after mixing the substances everything is poured into the tank.

Now all that remains is to refuel the gasoline trimmer , and you can carry out the necessary work.
