Experienced craftsmen know that for quality work you need the right tools.
You can use a hacksaw to cut wood and other materials, but it takes a lot of time.
A great alternative is a circular saw.
The range of well-known brands includes compact models, which are quite sufficient for household work.
To choose the most suitable tool, it is enough to evaluate the main characteristics of the tool as a whole and compare several models.

How to choose and what to pay attention to?
When purchasing a mini circular saw, you need to evaluate the basic parameters of the tool:
- Power - the ability to process materials of different densities depends on it. The power of mini saws ranges from 0.2 to 0.6 kW.
- Weight - mini saws weigh up to 2.5 kg, so they are convenient to work with.
- The depth of the cut depends on the diameter of the disc. For everyday tasks, a value from 20 to 40 mm is sufficient.
- Speed of rotation - the productivity and ability to cut different materials depends on it. The higher the indicator, the denser materials can be sawed.
- Working at an angle - most tools are used for straight cuts and flooring at a 45 degree angle. There is a model with cuts at 60 and 90 degrees.
- The diameter of the discs ranges from 85 to 90 mm.
- Additional options make working with the tool more comfortable and safe. Among them are soft start, laser mark, sawdust collection, blocking the engine from accidental starting, and blowing the working surface.
What are the additional features?
Tabletop and hand-held mini-circulars can be equipped with additional functions. These include:
- Immersion cutting. Such models are capable of sawing products not only from the edge, but also from the middle. At the same time, they allow you to do this to a depth of 2-3 centimeters.
- Smooth launch. This function smoothly increases the speed of the working disk.
- Built-in vacuum cleaner. Some models independently clean the workplace from sawdust, collecting them in a separate container.
- Spindle lock. Using this function, you can manually lock the disk from rotating.
Additional Information! Some models are equipped with a laser sight. It helps make a smoother cut.

Best value for money A saw with an attractive price tag and optimal characteristics. An 85 mm disc and 550 watts of power allow you to perform the most difficult jobs. - Characteristics Average price: 5,800 rub.
This tool can hardly be called professional. This is more of a household mini circular saw, capable of making neat cuts on fragile materials such as laminate. The high rotation speed allows the disc to leave no gaps, and the speed is not adjustable, meaning you don’t have to adjust it yourself. The saw is electric, powered from the mains. The motor power is 550 watts, and the cutting disc size is 85 millimeters. In the description, the manufacturer assures us that the cutting depth is 26 millimeters, but judging by the reviews, this parameter is slightly too high. The disc does not reach more than 20 millimeters, especially on the frame, and even more so when rotated 45 degrees.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Affordable price
- Many degrees of protection against accidental launch
- Availability of dust collector and vacuum cleaner
- Angle adjustment
- Some difficulty with keystrokes to start
- Incorrect cutting parameter

Jigsaw or circular saw
The video should load here, please wait or refresh the page.
I have a good and well-known Makita 4329 jigsaw. But when cutting on chipboard there were always three problems:
- cut smoothly
- cut cleanly without chips
- cut quickly
And if I, more or less, solved the issue of sawing purely, then there were always problems with the rest. So that I don’t make the cut, it goes a few millimeters to the left. It is also very difficult to control the care; usually I noticed this only when nothing could be done. It was especially infuriating when it was mowed vertically.
Cutting speed is another story. The cleaner the cut, the longer the process. The greater the chance that the file will become dull (and this is also a financial issue). Of course, I’m not a professional and I’m sure that there are masters who work wonders with a jigsaw. However, it's definitely not me.
All over the Internet, on furniture makers' forums, in this situation they recommend not using a jigsaw to cut laminated chipboard, everyone says - take a circular saw (or take it to a workshop for cutting).
During the next remodel, I had to cut 2 meters of 18 mm laminated chipboard and I realized that a jigsaw was not an option at all and went to dig about small circular saws.
Minicircular in Russia
Mini circulars on Yandex Market.
I was surprised, but it turned out that there are enough offers on the market for mini circular saws - with a disk of 115 mm and smaller. The only bad thing is that a small circular saw from a decent manufacturer (Makita, Bosch) costs the same as a full-size one and the choice is very, very modest. But for 8-10 thousand you can even get a saw with a battery, but for my tasks paying ten is too expensive.
It was possible to take something with a Russian name, made in China in the region of 5, but I once tried such tools and now I categorically prefer to take a normal “China” than this “Russian type”, so I went to Aliexpress.
Perhaps you have a different opinion. Objectively, I do not have any accurate statistics on the quality of Diolds and Statuses. However, even if we ignore my subjective experience, then purely logically any Russian manufacturer must include in the price the costs of customs clearance, taxes, marketing, sales organization, and then what will be left for production from the price of 4990 on the market. The Chinese with Aliexpress have a clear advantage here.

The HS301DZ mini circular saw is no exception. This is a cordless model, powered by a 10.8 volt battery. Its capacity is 2 Ah, and a full charge lasts for about an hour of uninterrupted operation. Not a bad result, considering the disc size of 85 millimeters and the ability to make a cut of 2.6 centimeters. The saw is sold together with a stand on which you can change the angle of inclination up to 45 degrees. But there is no battery or charger. But they are suitable for any other tool of this brand, for example, a screwdriver.

Specifications
As a rule, small circular saws are classified as lightweight tools, and therefore have rather modest qualities:
- Power – the cleanliness of cutting and overall productivity directly depend on this parameter. The nominal value for this category of saws varies between 400-800 W. This is enough for sawing thin strips and plywood.
- Rotation speed of the working disk - this characteristic will affect the quality of the cut. At high speeds, for example, cutting plastic will be ineffective, because the material being processed will begin to melt. But when working with wood, the rotation speed can be increased. In the case of working on metal, again the frequency will need to be lowered, because the cut may be uneven. This suggests a certain conclusion - it is better to have a model in which the rotation speed can be manually adjusted.
- Cutting depth - this property is directly influenced by the size of the disc and the very features of the protective casing. It often happens that saws with the same diameter of the working saw blade cut the part with different depths. The nominal characteristics are as follows: with a disk diameter of 65 millimeters, the cutting depth will not exceed 50 millimeters (the missing 15 millimeters will be limited by the casing).
- Variability of the cutting angle - this function is provided in many models of modern mini-circular saws; usually, it is set within 0-45 degrees. Although, most masters, both professionals and amateurs, do not often use this option. Therefore, it seems inappropriate to rely on its mandatory presence when purchasing an instrument.
