Fans of outdoor activities should check the condition of their camping equipment before setting out on their next hike. Judging by numerous consumer reviews, gas burners are very popular. With their help, you can quickly prepare food while traveling.

However, this will only be possible if the tourist gas cylinder is full. If it is half empty, then it is not advisable to take it with you. Of course, if you do not use such cylinders regularly, you can replace it with a new one. However, craftsmen refill tourist gas cylinders at home.

Coping with this task will not be difficult if you follow the instructions. The can will remain in working order. You will learn more about how to refill a gas cylinder at home from this article.

Refilling travel cylinders at home

Collet gas cylinder.

The work process will depend on the type of cylinder connection. It can be threaded or collet. The latter type mostly comes with a volume of 220 ml, it is made in the form of a narrow and tall cylinder. When connected to the torch, the collet container is inserted with its connecting unit into the groove and rotated until it locks.

Threaded gas cylinder.

Connection to a threaded type that meets European standards occurs through special adapters. They are screwed into the gas burner clockwise. Such cylinders are wider in width than the previous type, and lower in height. There are three volumes on sale: 110, 230 and 450 ml.

How to refill a tourist gas cylinder with a thread?

It is best to refill a threaded container from the same half-empty can or a cheaper collet one. But some craftsmen fill the container with gas from a household cylinder. A five-liter container containing a propane-butane mixture is suitable. Unlike pure butane, which is originally found in commercial gas cylinders, it works great at sub-zero temperatures. Whereas the purchased version practically does not burn at 00C.

Adapter for refilling gas cylinders.

A secure connection is made through a special adapter for refilling gas cartridges. It is a transparent tube, at the ends of which there are threaded adapters for connecting to cans. The adapter tip part is made of brass. It has a wing lock and an O-ring. This device helps to screw and fix the adapter on the cylinder. In addition, it has a valve regulator to ensure smooth gas supply.

Refilling the can must be carried out in compliance with safety rules.

Work algorithm:

  1. Check whether the valve regulator on the adapter is closed. Then insert a gasket into the fitting and screw the adapter to the household cylinder. For reliability, tighten the fitting using an adjustable wrench.
  2. Turn the cylinder over and hang it up if possible.
  3. On pre-prepared scales, you need to weigh the cylinder and find out its mass when empty. The resulting weight should be written down on the bottom of the container with a marker; this will come in handy the next time you fill up. But the main purpose of this weighing is to determine the exact mass, so that when filling the canister it does not exceed the specified volume and leaves an air “cushion”.
  4. After weighing, the cylinder is screwed to the adapter. First, the valve on the large cylinder opens, and then on the small one, and the gas supply begins. The movement of gas bubbles will be visible through the transparent tube.
  5. After a certain time, the movement of liquid gas may slow down, in which case it is necessary to pause the process and bleed the gas from the tourist can. When some part of the substance evaporates in the container, the pressure will decrease and the filling process can be continued. Another solution in this situation would be to cool the entire cylinder, which can be placed in the freezer for a short period of time and then refilled.
  6. After refilling, the canister is weighed again, and if the accumulated volume exceeds the required volume, then the excess gas must be vented.

How to refill a collet travel cylinder?

The source of gas can be a household cylinder. To connect it you need to make a special adapter. The manufacture of such an adapter consists of connecting a torch, previously removed from a gas collet cartridge without a nozzle, and a hose. The latter is clamped with metal clamps on both sides, which provide reliable fastening and protection against the hose slipping. A fitting is attached to its other end. It fits onto the cylinder, but you should not forget to put a gasket , and then tighten the homemade adapter tightly. The cylinder is placed on the table, and on the other side of the adapter, a tourist analogue is put on and refilled to the required volume, checking it by weighing.

You can also fill a collet can with gas from its threaded counterpart. All you have to do is make a homemade adapter from the needle of a disposable syringe and use it to connect two cans.

Refilling gas cylinders for tourist burners can be done independently, taking into account the above nuances. After the first time, you can remember all the steps and repeat them the next time you refuel. But we must remember that any tourist spray can is a disposable product and its refilling is done at your own peril and risk.

Algorithm of actions

First of all, you need to weigh the empty cylinder. Then close the collet on the adapter and attach the union nut to the large cylinder. Using a soap solution, check how tight the connection is. Next, position the large cylinder so that the part with the valve is at the bottom.

Now connect the empty can to the collet clamp and turn the handle. When the container is filled with liquefied fuel, close the valve and unscrew the can. After completing these steps, it remains to be weighed and checked for leaks.

How to properly refill a gas cylinder in a car with LPG?

First of all, you must remember one thing - refueling your car while there is an operator or a gas station attendant is prohibited! For such a violation, the employee may be punished or even fired, and you, at a minimum, will receive a warning or possibly even a fine! All you need to do is tell the employee the location of the remote refueling device.

There are, however, exceptions when there is no gas station or the gas station itself provides for the possibility of self-refueling, in which case the tips below will help you correctly fill up with gas at a gas station.

From personal experience. For example, I once witnessed a simply blatant case of violation of safety rules by an employee of a gas filling station. The gas station operator, in a state of severe alcoholic intoxication, tried to connect the pistol and could not, let alone connect it to the VZU, he could barely stand on his feet. The worst thing was that a few minutes after his unsuccessful attempts, the gas station attendant decided “out of grief” to light a cigarette, while holding the pistol in his hands. I’ll tell you honestly, I’ve never seen people get into their cars so quickly and drive off in all directions. Laughter is laughter, but everything could end in tears.

1. The first thing to do is drive up to the pump and turn off the engine.

2. Perform a visual check of all LPG components for serviceability, although it is better to do this before you are going to refuel.

3. Connect the adapter, if it is provided for in the design of your gas equipment, and install the gun into the VSU.

4. Turn on the gas supply and monitor the filling of the gas cylinder. Here it is necessary to remember that only the amount of gas that can physically fit into the cylinder can fit into it; you should not shake the car or stagger in order to pump more gas into your cylinder. I wrote about this in more detail in my previous article: About deception at gas filling stations. Find out how they cheat at gas stations.

5. After the cylinder is filled, the automatic gas station will shut off the gas supply. You will notice this by the fact that the numbers in the “liters” and “rubles” fields will stop. Although if you don't need a full tank, you can stop refilling at any time.

6. All that remains is to disconnect the “gun” and remove the adapter, if you installed one.

After completing the refueling, do not forget to pay the bill. That’s actually the whole procedure, as you can see, it’s not complicated, the most important thing is to try to do it yourself several times.

Unfortunately, gasification is still sweeping across the country. The so-called national treasure (which in fact does not belong to the people) still remains inaccessible to many. Naturally, this refers to gas pipelines, which still need to be installed in many populated areas of the Russian Federation.

6 months ago I filled 3 cylinders, well, I think winter has come, I need to replace one, half of it was left in the car. It would be all right, but I think let me try how it burns, I connected it to the burner and the valve poisons, you remove the burner, everything is fine. I think, okay, it’s rusty, I’ll take it another and also the same picture. I had to throw out two cylinders. Moral: an old cylinder can be used, but not for long.

  • Types and features of gas storage cylinders

Manufacturers produce several types of steel cylinders of different volumes: 5, 15, 25 and 50 liters. Weight – from 4 to 22 kg. For example, a 50 liter cylinder weighs 44 kg. Recently, cylinders made of polymer composite materials in volumes of 14 or 33 liters have been developed and produced.

Types of tanks for household use

Based on the material from which the body is made, cylinders for household use are divided into the following groups:

Steel cylinders – strong and durable

Their vulnerable point is the welding seams, therefore, when purchasing and inspecting, great attention is paid to the inspection of welding seams. It is recommended to choose the right place to install the equipment, excluding places of high humidity, so as not to corrode steel models

    Composite containers

This is a more modern option. A composite gas cylinder is also quite durable and costs 2-3 times more due to the high cost of materials containing fiberglass. Additional body protection enhances strength.

Polymer cylinders are easier to transport because they weigh less and are less subject to deformation when impacted or dropped. Another advantage of polymer equipment is high thermal stability. It may be near a fire.

How do color and purpose relate?

According to GOST rules, the color of the cylinder determines its purpose:

    • white ones with yellow inscriptions are filled with acetylene;
    • red - for propane;
    • blue – for medical or regular oxygen;
    • dark green ones store hydrogen;
    • in gray with black elements - nitrous oxide.

For use in our domestic conditions and regular replenishment of liquefied fuel, only red tanks with appropriate markings are suitable.

  • Refueling tricks you need to know

When working with gas, be sure to wear protective gloves. Because gas has a cooling effect. Also, due to this property of gas, frost can be observed on the system during refueling. Don't panic. You should wait for the frost to thaw and then continue working.

This has already been mentioned above, that you need to leave a little space in the gas canister. This is due to the high coefficient of thermal expansion of the gas. Follow fire safety regulations. There should be no open flames or sparks near the workplace. Still, the gas is flammable.

Branded cans can be refilled up to three or four times, but it is not advisable. The valves on the cans are easily deformed, so they often cannot survive several refills.

The problem with household gas is its smell. Moreover, fresh gas also smells, but it is quite tolerable. But the one that has been in a cylinder for several years has a nasty smell. Be prepared for this when working.

To summarize, we can talk about the positive aspects of refilling gas cylinders. Economically, refilling gas cylinders with household gas is a profitable process. On average, the cost of a tourist canister for a burner is 300 rubles. While refilling a large household gas cylinder can be done on average for 800 rubles. Moreover, you will use a household cylinder many times. The savings are obvious. The only additional materials needed are a hose. That is, the costs of additional equipment are insignificant.

In what order will vehicles pass through the intersection?

    Correct 16. Driving through intersections

  • Gas storage for individual use

How often cylinders need to be refilled depends primarily on the volume of consumption. Those. on the amount of gas equipment that consumes gas. In an individual residential building, with a connected gas stove and heating boiler, gas consumption is significantly higher than when using a gas stove in a country house.

Cooking food at the dacha (even with permanent residence) is temporary, and therefore consumption is much lower. In this case, refilling a gas cylinder to operate a gas stove will be much less frequent than for a house in which a gas boiler is also installed.

The main reason for such differences in gas consumption lies in the fact that the design of the gas burner of the boiler is significantly different from the design of the burner of the cooking equipment. In such cases, it is difficult to get by with one cylinder, even if the cylinder is large (50 l), it will have to be changed with enviable regularity.

If cylinders with a volume of 5 l and 12 l are allowed to be installed near a gas stove (at a distance no closer than 1 m from the cylinder to the stove), then cylinders with a volume of 27 l and 50 l must be installed outdoors in specially equipped places for this purpose (+)

At high consumption, it makes sense to use an individual cylinder installation consisting of several cylinders. This option allows you to have a significantly larger supply of gas in stock, and replace empty cylinders less frequently.

However, we should not forget that an increase in the volume of stored gas entails an increase in responsibility for the technical condition of gas equipment.

As a rule, non-flammable cabinets located outside are specially equipped places. They fix the cylinder equipment and connect them to the gas pipeline that supplies the gas equipment.

Cabinets for individual cylinder installations must be located in such places that they are at least five meters away from the passage of people (entrance to the house, etc.). They need to be firmly secured. Cylinders inside cabinets must be in a stable position. It is recommended to secure them to protect them from accidental falls.

The cabinet must have ventilation openings or ventilation grilles, which should not allow gas to accumulate (in case of possible leakage) due to natural ventilation. Ideally, such a cabinet should be equipped with an alarm sensor against dangerous gas concentrations

However, given the fact that the volume of stored gas is not so large, and there is also the possibility of its natural dispersion due to natural ventilation, this may not be required in individual cylinder installations.

  • Several important nuances for operation

Simple rules will help you use cylinders conveniently and safely in dachas and country houses:

    1. Do not smoke when changing the cylinder. It is forbidden to keep an open flame nearby and check for leaks using fire (a lighter or matches).
    2. Keep the valve fully open and fully closed when appliances are turned off.
    3. Do not allow the power tool to operate in close proximity to the cylinder so that sparks from the conductive rotor brushes do not flare up due to an unnoticed gas leak.

Compliance with the requirements for competent and careful operation of liquefied gas tanks is a norm that guarantees the safety of the user and others, as well as the safety of property.

The following article will introduce you to the nuances and rules for filling gas cartridges required for the operation of burners. We recommend reading this very useful information.

  • Basic storage requirements

Liquefied gas cylinders are widely used in everyday life, as well as in the industrial and construction industries. When storing explosive substances in various places, basic safety requirements must be observed to prevent accidents, both at home and at work.

    At home

To store liquefied gas in domestic conditions, solid welded metal cylinders are used. Their capacity is usually 50 liters, but there are small vessels with a volume of 5.27 liters.

In everyday life, cylinders filled with butane, propane and their mixture are used. They must be stored only in compliance with the following established safety standards:

    1. It is not allowed to store gas cylinders in apartments, including loggias and balconies, and residential buildings. It is also prohibited to leave containers with flammable fillings for storage on staircases, attics and basements.
    2. The liquefied gas tank must be stored on a fire-resistant surface. To avoid accidental dropping of the cylinder, it is recommended to place it in a vertical position.
    3. The gas container must be kept in places protected from direct sunlight. It is not allowed to leave cylinders near open flames, heating appliances, or open electrical wiring.
    4. Tanks filled with liquefied gas must be stored in non-residential outbuildings constructed from non-combustible materials. The distance from the entrance to the building or its basement or basement premises is allowed to be more than 5 meters.

In places where gas cylinders are stored, a sign must be placed in plain view warning about the placement of a hazardous substance.

    At the enterprise

In industrial applications, cylinders with liquefied and technical gas can be used. The tank capacity can be up to 50 or over 100 liters. Storage of cylinders at the enterprise must be carried out in accordance with the presented requirements:

    1. It is allowed to store gas containers in special rooms designated for these purposes or simply in the open air. In any case, the tank must be completely protected from the sun's rays and precipitation.
    2. Storage areas for gas cylinders should be located at a distance of 100 meters from public buildings and no less than 50 meters from residential buildings. Also, a distance of more than 20 meters should be maintained between warehouses.
    3. Cylinders with only one type of gas are allowed to be stored in one warehouse. Placing containers with a liquefied mixture and oxygen together is quite dangerous.
    4. Gas-filled cylinders with shoes installed are stored in a vertical position. To prevent accidental movement of containers, they must be installed in special support slots or protected with barrier structures, which must be made only from fire-resistant materials.
    5. All heating devices, including radiators and heating units, must be located more than 1 meter from gas cylinders. The distance from heat sources with open fire is over 5 meters.
    6. In warehouses where cylinders with flammable substances are stored, there must be high-quality artificial ventilation.

Storage of gas cylinders at the enterprise In the premises for storing gas containers there must be instructions and information notifying about the danger of the stored substance. All posters and signs should be displayed in plain sight.

    At construction sites

During the construction of buildings, it is often necessary to perform hot work using gas cylinders. The rules for storing flammable mixtures on a construction site coincide with the safety requirements at enterprises and in domestic conditions. But there are some additions that relate to the construction industry:

    1. If there are no special storage facilities, then cylinders can be stored in semi-closed or open places without access to sunlight and at an appropriate distance from heating devices. It is allowed to place gas containers in special cabinets made of non-combustible material on a fire-resistant surface.
    2. When storing cylinders, it is necessary to prevent their exposure to sunlight; also, the container with fuel should not come into contact with various building materials, especially those impregnated with fatty substances.
    3. Containers with other substances cannot be stored together with cylinders filled with liquefied gas, and the combined storage of full and empty tanks is prohibited.

Gas cylinders at construction sites should be stored away from sunlight

It is imperative to install signs with the following inscriptions near areas where containers with flammable substances are stored: “Explosive”, “No smoking”, “Caution!” Gas"

  • Technology for refilling burner cartridges

The first stage is working with weights. You need to weigh the empty cans. This is necessary to determine the exact amount of gas poured at the very end. Then, using an adapter, the empty cylinder is connected to a household one.

There is a little trick here. A large gas cylinder is placed on its side. In this case, the lower part should remain on a hill. Therefore, they put some object under it. For example, brick. This is done to ensure that the valve is as low as possible for better gas transportation.

Then close the valve located on the adapter and open the one on the cylinder. Little by little we open the valve on the adapter. This forces the air out of the hose with gas. Refueling has started.

During operation, you can clearly hear liquid gas moving through the hose. At the moment when the sound stops, you can shake the tourist spray can. Thus, a small amount of gas will enter it. On average, refilling one small can takes no more than 5 minutes.

After completing the work, close the valves and carefully disconnect the tourist spray can. You can shake it to make sure there is gas in it. The gas should just flop around. This will indicate the presence of a small space, the so-called gas cap. You should also check the valve for leaks using a soap solution. Verification by fire is prohibited. After filling the first cylinder, you can fill the others using the same scheme.

After filling one or more cylinders, it is necessary to weigh. This way you can track how much gas is in the cylinder. It should not be in excess. But it would not be advisable to leave too much space unfilled with gas.

8.7.6. To regulate traffic at railway crossings, traffic lights with two red signals or one white-lunar and two red ones are used, having the following meanings:

    a) flashing red signals prohibit the movement of vehicles through the crossing;

    b) a flashing white-lunar signal indicates that the alarm system is working and does not prohibit vehicle movement.

At railway crossings, simultaneously with the prohibitory traffic light signal, an audible signal may be turned on, additionally informing road users that movement through the crossing is prohibited.

  • Can disposable lighters be refilled?

Still from the movie “Jennifer’s Body”

Some people are interested in how to refill a disposable lighter, and, alas, the “experts” on the Internet give them “helpful” tips. We will not do this, because the word “disposable” in the name of the model speaks for itself.

And no, we won’t tell you how to refill a cricket lighter for 30 rubles with gas from a can. Because this model, although a little nicer to use than the cheapest transparent plastic options, is also disposable.

Please do not save such insignificant amounts, risking your safety, and refill only those lighters that provide this option.

The driver of which vehicle will cross the intersection second?

    Correct 16. Driving through intersections

16.11. At an intersection of unequal roads, the driver of a vehicle moving on a secondary road must give way to vehicles approaching this intersection of carriageways on the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement.

16.14. If the main road at an intersection changes direction, drivers of vehicles moving along it must follow the rules for driving through intersections of equivalent roads.

This rule should be followed among themselves and by drivers driving on secondary roads.

  • Security measures

Before you start refilling the lighter, you need to make sure that this activity is safe. You must first make sure that there are no sources of open flame or other ignition possibilities. Under no circumstances should the can be left with heating devices or people who smoke.

When refilling a lighter with gas, you must follow safety precautions.

The room should also be large enough (that is, not a car interior or a toilet) and well ventilated. When refueling, you need to be careful so that gas vapors that do end up in the environment do not affect the respiratory and visual organs.

In order to ensure that the lighter is fully refilled, some advise pre-cooling it in the freezer for several minutes (no more than 10). However, this may result in a reboot. This can only be done if the lighter is equipped with a fuel level control window.

Lighters must be used constantly. Otherwise, they quickly fail. To prevent this, before long-term storage, you need to release all the gas from the tank.

To constantly care for your lighter and keep it in good condition, you need to periodically blow it out. For this purpose, compressed oxygen canisters are available. With its help, valves are completely purged from debris in hard-to-reach places.

Refilling a lighter with gas yourself is a simple task that requires a little time and patience. If you have lighters that are especially dear to your heart, this option will come in handy. However, if someone does not want to do this or does not succeed, then you can always contact a refueling specialist. True, the cost of such a service will be much more expensive than buying one can, which, by the way, is enough for any use.

    Cyclist:

    Correct 8. Traffic regulation

8.7.3. Traffic light signals have the following meanings:

A signal in the form of an arrow that allows a left turn also allows a U-turn if it is not prohibited by road signs.

    A signal in the form of a green arrow(s) in the additional section(s), switched on together with the green traffic light signal, informs the driver that he has priority in the direction(s) of movement indicated by the arrow(s) over vehicles moving from other directions;

    f) a red signal, including a flashing one, or two red flashing signals prohibit movement.

A signal in the form of a green arrow(s) in the additional section(s), together with a yellow or red traffic light signal, informs the driver that movement is permitted in the indicated direction, subject to the unhindered passage of vehicles moving from other directions.

    A green arrow on a sign installed at the level of a red traffic light with a vertical arrangement of signals allows movement in the indicated direction when the red traffic light is on from the rightmost lane (or the leftmost lane on one-way roads), subject to the provision of priority in traffic to its other participants moving from other directions to a traffic light signal allowing movement;

  • Disadvantages of switching to gas

    Maintenance problems.

Despite the popularity of gas equipment, there are not many specialists in setting up and installing such equipment.

The reason is that servicing gas equipment requires expensive equipment, which not all stations are ready to purchase.

When problems arise with the system, you have to spend a lot of time searching for a competent technician.

A small number of gas stations.

The main reason for the small number of gas stations is the difficulty in obtaining permits to refuel cars with such fuel, as well as the high cost of equipment.

On a long trip you have to struggle to find a suitable gas station. The only thing that saves is the ability to quickly switch to gasoline.

    Reduced power and dynamics.

The results of the experiments showed that after refueling the car with gas (methane or propane), the power drops by 12-15 percent. Accordingly, the maximum speed is reduced by 6-7 percent.

Problems with starting the engine in low temperatures.

When the ambient temperature drops below 10 degrees below zero, the gas turns into a liquid state and does not enter the system.

In addition, the ignition temperature also increases, which leads to a number of starting problems.

In such a situation, the only solution is to start on gasoline and then switch to gas.

Risk of depressurization when temperature rises.

Cars with HBO are afraid of engine overheating due to the risk of depressurization of the system. For the same reason, you should avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

Increase in vehicle weight and decrease in trunk volume.

It is no secret that installation of gas equipment is carried out in the luggage compartment, which often leads to a lack of space when loading.

On average, 65-70 kilograms are added to the weight of the car and 40 liters of luggage compartment are subtracted.

There are situations when HBO is mounted directly behind the rear seats. In this case, the possibility of folding them and transporting rangefinder loads is excluded.

    Can a cyclist turn left?

Correct 11. Location of vehicles on the road

11.14. Movement on the roadway on bicycles, mopeds, horse-drawn carriages (sleighs) and horseback riders is permitted only in one row in the rightmost lane as far to the right as possible, except for cases when a detour is in progress. Left turns and U-turns are permitted on roads with one lane in each direction and no tram tracks in the middle. Driving on the side of the road is permitted if this does not create obstacles for pedestrians.

Algorithm for filling a container with dye

Inflating cylinders using professional equipment is beneficial in terms of filling the container, but is not available due to the high price. Self-filling of aerosol cans with paint is justified by its low costs and ease of operation. Although the container is not filled to its maximum capacity.

The aerosol container can be used more than once.

Before filling the can with paint, prepare the following tools:

    • A container container is being prepared: empty deodorant, used for dye. A paint can of one type is filled with paint of the same type: acrylic after acrylic, alkyd after alkyd. Otherwise, a “chemical conflict” may occur. The quality of the coating will suffer as a result.
    • The dye can be refilled with the desired shade, purchased ready-made or tinted with your own hands.
    • The dye is pumped into a large volume medical syringe. If an additional broken needle is used, then releasing the safety valve will be more effective.
    • A nipple taken from an old bicycle tube is used.
    • For a bicycle or car, a chamber inflation pump.
    • Pressure measuring manometer.

Before you fill the paint into the can with your own hands, remove the cap and sprayer from the container. The remaining actions are performed in strict sequence:

    • The syringe is filled with dye.
    • Using the needle on the syringe, the cylinder fuse is pressed out, and the syringe is inserted into the container until it stops.
    • The paint is pumped into a container. Its number corresponds to a specific shade. You can select the desired color by fan. Colors for tinting are most often selected from the RAL, NCS, Pantone catalogs. Mixing base colors allows you to get the desired shade.
    • Actions are performed until 2/3 of the container is full. So, for example, a 520 ml cylinder is pumped to 400 ml. This container is enough to paint 1.5 m2 if the paint is applied in two layers.
    • To mix the dye, 5 balls are added to the container. Balls from bicycle bearings will do.

    Useful video on the topic:

To spray, add air under pressure to the container to be filled:

    • The safety valve is released using the bicycle nipple. It is inserted into a can.
    • A bicycle pump is connected to the nipple. Air is pumped up to a pressure of 5 atmospheres. Low pressure does not provide high-quality atomization. If the indicator is higher, then the container ruptures.
    • The nipple is removed and the spray button is installed in its place.

The canister is ready to use. It is shaken, the paint is mixed and spray control is carried out. A small dose of dye is applied to the unwanted surface.
