It doesn’t take much time to make such a device and it’s inexpensive. But the product can last for several years; it only needs to be periodically cleaned to remove accumulated carbon deposits.

Why do you need a muffler?

This is a special device, thanks to which the noise from a running engine becomes an order of magnitude lower, but does not muffle it completely and this does not suit many people.

Of course, saws are now sold in which the muffler is capable of suppressing noise several times, but this immediately affects the operation of the saw.

Therefore, if you want to make the engine even quieter than what is provided by the factory, then you should try installing an additional muffler by making it yourself.

If you are smart, the same Ural saw can be made to work much quieter and this will not affect its performance in any way.

Do it yourself

In order to save money and time spent searching for the right workshops, I advise you to make a muffler at home. It's not as difficult as it seems at first glance.

All you need is a regular 1mm stainless steel sheet, an iron tube with a smaller diameter than the muffler, stainless steel wool, basalt fiber and a little patience.

1. We take a sheet of steel and wrap it around the rollers, in the end we get a round tube, but you will definitely need an oval-shaped pipe. To do this, use welding to heat and then press down the tube, you should get an oval shape;
2. If you have a ready-made pipe of a suitable diameter, then this is good, if not, then you need to make it using a welding machine. To do this, take a metal sheet, mark the required dimensions and cut it by welding. Then we make a pipe, the seam should be thin and without bumps;
3. When you have a finished pipe, you need to make as many holes in it as possible, and you can make holes either chaotically or in a strict order, it doesn’t matter at all;
4. Next, we take the stainless steel prepared in advance and begin to wrap the outside of the pipe. This is necessary to prevent the muffler casing from blowing out;
5. Then we wrap basalt fiber over the stainless wool (this is the most suitable material) and so that it all does not slip, we fasten it with wire, which should be thin and at the same time strong;
6. We insert the wrapped pipe into the future apparatus and rub it all down with sandpaper, paying special attention to the seams and joints so that they do not stick out too much;
7. When you have done all this, the resulting unit must be attached to the chainsaw as tightly as possible so that it does not fly off at the right moment.

Such a homemade device, if done correctly, will serve for a long time and will significantly reduce engine noise; it works well on Druzhba chainsaws. Another advantage of a homemade muffler is that it will cost you a meager amount. It will only cost you time, but it's worth it.

You can also use this version of the muffler: install partitions in the pipe, which is located in the muffler, and thereby reduce the noise level of the engine. This is explained by the fact that the noise itself is a strong vibration of air, which comes out of the muffler at great speed.

In order to reduce operating noise, it is enough just to drill holes in the pipe and insert partitions into them at equal distances. There will be many divisions and the gas will gradually come out, while the pressure and noise will decrease. In order to independently find the cause of problems with the operation of the chainsaw, you need to know very well the structure of the Ural chainsaw. Therefore, in this article, I invite everyone interested to familiarize themselves with the structure and operating principle of this wonderful and necessary tool.

Chainsaw MP-5 "Ural-2T Electron" (Figure 1) consists of: engine 1, gearbox 12, frame, sawing apparatus consisting of saw bar 15, tensioner 13 and saw chain 16, removable starter 3 and has a power supply system and lubrication of the sawing apparatus. The chainsaw comes with an individual set of spare parts and tools. 3.1 Engine The engine consists of the following main assembly units (Figure 2): crankcase 1, crankshaft 2 with connecting rod, piston 15 with two compression rings 20, cylinder 14 and automatic centrifugal friction clutch and has systems: ignition, cylinder cooling and exhaust gas exhaust .

The engine cylinder is made of aluminum alloy. To increase wear resistance, its internal working surface is chrome-plated.

The tightness of the engine crank chamber is ensured by rubber seals 3 and 17, paronite gasket 23 and paper gasket 25 (Figure 2).

The friction clutch consists of two parts - driving and driven. The leading part of the coupling is installed on the shank of the engine crankshaft and consists of a driver-16, weights 19 in the form of ring sectors and spiral springs 18.

The driven part of the coupling (hub) is installed on the shank of the drive gear of the gearbox 8 (Figure 7). Lubrication of the crankshaft bearings and working surfaces of the crank group parts during engine operation is carried out by oil included in the fuel mixture. 3.1.1 Ignition system The ignition system includes: contactless magneto EM-1 10 (Figure 4), flywheel 4 (Figure 2), ignition wire, insulator with noise suppression device (Figure 5) and spark plugs.

The electrical circuit diagram of the magneto EM-1 is given in this article. All semiconductor elements: five diodes, a thyristor, a resistor and a capacitor are mounted in the base chamber and filled with a sealing compound. If one of the elements in the base chamber fails, the magneto cannot be restored.

The magneto ensures the start of spark formation at the spark plug at a flywheel speed of 400-600 rpm, therefore, checking the magneto for sparking should be done by rotating the engine crankshaft with the starter at a frequency not lower than the specified one. It is necessary to take into account that the temperature of the spark emitted by the EM-1 magneto is much higher than that from the contact magneto, and the spark is difficult to see in daylight. This is not a magneto defect.

The EM-1 magneto operates normally at temperatures up to plus 85° C (temperature of the magneto housing). If the specified temperature value is exceeded when operating the chainsaw, the magneto electronic unit may fail. To avoid premature failure of the EM-1 magneto, you should follow the rules for operating the chainsaw. The magneto is installed in the crankcase on two studs and secured with nuts 8 (Figure 3).

A spark between the electrodes of the spark plug appears at the moment when the piston does not reach T.M.T. by 3.66 mm, which corresponds to the crankshaft rotation angle of 29° before T.M.T., which is the ignition timing angle. At the manufacturer's factory, when setting the ignition timing against mark 7 (Figure 4), mark 7 is placed on the magneto on the crankcase (Figure 4). When installing a magneto after replacing it, after routine or repair work during operation of the chainsaw, combine the indicated risks. Flywheel The flywheel is four-pole, installed on the crankshaft cone, fixed with a key and secured with a nut M 10 x 1. A ratchet 7 is attached to the thread in the flywheel hub (Figure 2) to start the starter motor. The high voltage wire is screwed at one end into the output pipe of the high-voltage transformer 5 (Figure 4), the other end has a threaded bushing for connection to the insulator (cap) 12 (Figure 2).

The insulator is made of dielectric material - phenol plastic. Contact screw 4 is installed in the insulator on the thread (Figure 7). Suppression of radio interference arising during operation of the chainsaw is carried out by damping resistance 3 and shielding cap 6.

To save money and spend time on the right workshops, I advise you to make a suppressor at home. It's not as difficult as it seems at first glance.

All you need is a regular 1mm thick stainless steel sheet, an iron tube with a smaller diameter than the muffler, stainless steel wool, basalt fiber

and a little patience.

1. Let's take a sheet of steel and roll it around the rollers, in the end we will get a round tube, but we will need an oval tube. To do this we heat by welding and then compress the tube, we should get an oval shape;
2. If you have a finished pipe with the correct diameter then that's good, if not then you need to do
   it using a welding machine. To do this, take a sheet of metal, mark the required dimensions and cut it by welding. Then we make a tube, the seam should be thin and without bumps;
3. When the finished pipe is finished, you need to make as many holes as possible, and you can make holes either randomly or in a strict order, it does not matter;
4. Then we take the pre-prepared stainless steel hair and begin to wind the pipes outward. This is done so that the muffler shell does not hit;
5. Then we wrap the basalt fiber
   on top of stainless wool (this is the most suitable material), and to prevent it from slipping, we attach it with wire, which must be thin and strong at the same time;
6. We place the wrapped pipe in the future apparatus, and we rub everything with sandpaper, paying special attention to the seams and joints so that they do not protrude too much;
7. When all this is done, the resulting block should be attached to the chainsaw as tightly as possible so that it does not fall at the right time.

Such a homemade machine, if done correctly, will serve for a long time and will significantly reduce engine noise; it works well on the Druzhba chainsaw. Another benefit of a homemade muffler is that it will cost you a meager amount. You'll waste time, but it's worth it.

You also have a muffler version: place baffles in the pipe that is located in the muffler and thereby reduce the engine noise level. This is due to the fact that the noise itself is a strong surge of air that leaves the muffler from the outside at high speed.

To reduce operating noise, it is enough to drill holes in the pipe and insert partitions into them at equal distances. This will lead to , and the gas will gradually go out, and the pressure and noise will decrease. Accordingly, the gas speed will decrease, which will lead to a decrease in noise.

If you want the gases to leave the cylinders faster, thereby reducing the engine effort to increase the saw's performance, remember that the noise will be several times greater.

To do this, you need a straight-through muffler, which can be made from a pipe according to the sketches of the old muffler, unscrewing and then using all the bolts and nuts.

I advise you to choose a steel tube, then the muffler will last longer. If there is no suitable steel pipe, you need to make one using a steel sheet. Using a welding machine, you can make a tube of the required diameter and size.

Everything is already provided at the factory, everything should work as a single unit, and if you try to change something yourself, including improving the muffler without any drawings, then it is quite difficult, and not everyone can get it.

In the best case, power is lost, and in the worst case. the chainsaw stops.

For chainsaws like the Tranquility 180, it is better to buy your own muffler, you can change it yourself without any problems.

Therefore, if you have some knowledge and good work, you should try to make an additional muffler yourself, thereby saving money, and perhaps it will be possible to make such a device that will actually make the chainsaw run much quieter without you having to constantly quarrel with neighbors or other people.
